Althought the earth moved: Some things are more important

Last Sunday I was in the seaside town of Langshui, a place reminiscent of Southend or Morecambe in the 50's., all innocence and fun, when an earthquake of 6.8 hit Taiwan. It was a horrible experience, and I shudder when I think of it. We are promised some more tremors but not of such a magnitude. However when I finally got back to the hotel, which too, had been badly shaken, I ws greeted by the General manager on the door who wore a beautific smile. When I asked him why he was happy on such a mis day he replied "I have just heard your team beat EVERTON 6-2 and I knew you would be pleased"

I went to bed contented

Nice story Derek. What a hotel manager! I guess lots of guys don't get that sort of welcome even from their wives after they get home from the match. And the Earth moved for you as well. What a day!

Stay safe Derek. Of course, I don't remember Southend or Morecambe in the 50s, tho Jonno and Clarky tell me those days were even better than Whitley Bay in its hey-day. Not sure Jacko would agree ;-)

Nice story Derek. Hope that you don't have any more rude awakenings whilst you are there.

Glad you're ok Derek, and you can notch it up as an experience. It looked a bad one, especially since it's a built up area. I had experience of an earthquake myself, in Guatamala, but the epicentre was a hundred miles away in the middle of nowhere. I just thought I was pissed or had eaten something dodgy, since everything started swimming around before me and I was having trouble walking ;-)

Gads! Earthquakes have to be one of the most terrifying natural phenomenas. Glad you're ok, Derek, and the hotel was still standing so that manager could continue to provide obviously top notch service!
