WTB - 35 cron 4th versiongreenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread |
If anyone knows where I might locate a nice 4th vers 35 cron I would appreciate the direction. I have only seen a few recently , but I may not be going to the right places. Any help on fair price would help as well.Thanks.

I'd like to see some discussion on the merits of the various versions of this lens. I've got the Version I (eight element) and a version II Lux. I haven't decided yet which is best overall, excluding of course f/1.4. I've gotten some very punchy saturated color with the Lux, but I'm very fond of my version I Cron as well.So I'd like to see what has been observed by users of the versions I through IV. Just scientific curiosity.

I replaced an 8-element Summicron with the pre-ASPH. I did it for one reason, color rendition. The first version seemed warmer to me than the rest of my Leica lenses. The pre-ASPH is absolutely neutral in it's color rendition. It also has more contrast than the first version. My pre-ASPH has been used once to insure it's performance was OK and then put back in the box. I bought it new after the ASPH version came out on the recommendation of Jim Kuehl. The reason it hasn't been used much is that I prefer the 50mm focal length for slides.
