Leica movie sighting

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

As with Andy's post, another sighting for ANEMETH'S site! The movie is Le Mans starring Steve McQeen as race driver Delaney. He is walking through a tunnel from the track to drivers area and is photographed by two photographers. One uses a Nikon (F2 I believe) and the other uses a M2/3 (chrome). Lens appears to be a 50 'cron with hood.

I'll have to rewatch the entire film (it's from the early '70's, I think) to see if there are further "sightings"!

Just another film for the growing list!!!

Todd, here's another sighting that I never saw on Nemeth's list. In "Harry and the Hendersons", which is an Abominable Snowman comedy, Bigfoot is adopted by a family and pursued by Don Ameche. In the final scene, when they are all friends, Ameche takes a group photo with an M3. My favorite "cameras as jewelry" scene is in "Apocolypse Now". When Martin Sheen and crew arrive at a camp deep in Viet Nam, they are greeted by a deranged photographer (Dennis Hopper) with a Bunch of beat-up Nikons around his neck. He is so off- the-wall and the cameras look so knarly that it just makes you want to run out and buy an F2. Cheers, Pat.

You might try "Under Fire" with Nick Nolte and Gene Hackman. Made about 1987 or 88 about the Nicaragua conflict.

In "Soldier of Orange", a 1977 Dutch release with Rutger Hauer, a circa-WWII Leica is an integral part of the story. I would be disappointed if someone literally and figuratively "out there" in this site couldn't come up with ID of the model used. BTW it's also a great movie. Sal.

Thanks guys - I've added the "Le Mans", "Harry..." and "Soldier of Orange" references (with individual credits of course) to the list at: nemeng.com/leica/ 005ea.shtml

BTW, if you see a film missing from the list then don't hesitate to drop me a note - I don't bite... ;?)
