All,

I have the above lens and like it, but it's quite heavy and I'd like to fit it with tripod collar (mount ring).

I don't like to haul around heavy tripod with heavy head, thus the need for better balance.

I know there's no collar manufactured specifically for this lens, at least not by Canon.

I think I read somewhere that some older collars can be fitted? Any advise will be appreciated.

Have you thought of a hose clamp with foam tape? :) I know some English firm sell custom-made tripod collars, but they're extremely expensive. Other than that I've not seen anything myself.

I agree with you - I find the lens rather unbalanced when the camera is mounted on a tripod.
