I just found this over on the GardenWeb. A friend of mine hates her Hostas that are taking over her shady yard, but I've long wondered what kind of edibles I could grow in shady areas. Here's the answer! Decorative AND edible!!

All the deer come for a feast anytime I try to grow Hostas. I've used that Deer Off but forget to spray after rain or new growth. I wish I could grow them all around my pond since it's in the shade but all I've got there now is pricker bushes, yuck.

All I can say is that the slugs sure love hostas!!!! I like to supplement their selection with a little beer, too....heh heh....or invite the ducks to dine with them...a la "the walrus and the carpenter"....
