Turner saddlery has a new sling made of a synthetic that acts and feels like a well broken in leather w/o the problems of saturation in rain etc. I have one on my AR. check it out........... Pete

I like and use both, for different reasons and applications. My hunting slings are all leather, very well made and not cheap. They are very quiet, have a little give in them which makes carrying a rifle for long periods more comfortable, and they just get better looking with age. I always use QD swivels so I can easily remove them to dry them out if it rains (as it often does here in Scotland). I have also been known to pop the back swivel off and wrap the sling round a convenient young tree to take a long shot in summer time when the vegitation is well up. My range slings are Bianchi Cobras with the polycarbonate thumb ring (helps ensure a vertical carry in company with heavy barrel rifles). The sort of range work I do does not require a sling for steadying the shot. I liked the sling on the AIAW I used in the 2001 comp - very versatile. There's a good pic of me and Paul using the sling for the 400m sitting discipline (Paul, any chance you could put that one on the site for illustration). Slightly different techniques, but both effective. On balance, I like leather slings more. Adam . . . out
