More people want to join us

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Beyond the Sidewalks : One Thread

I made the mistake of checking the Yahoo mail, and found several people wanting to join us. Actually, quite a few, but most of them are "new" names, and they will just have to wait until I get back.

I don't check that email often enough. Anyway, those (somewhat) familiar names asking:

[1] Stan (is his last name Opal? I think so) -- he actually sent the email quite awhile ago. Anyway, I thought it fair to at least bring him up for discussion, but I gotta tell you, I vote NO. Sorry to anyone who likes him, but I don't find him amusing, and I thought his antics in starting all those new boards, whatever the provocation, were very immature. Email: sopal@net-port.com

[2] Gloria Mullinax -- also sent email awhile back. Actually, her name SEEMS familiar, but I can't place it and don't have time to do a search. Email addy: MullinaxClan@webtv.net

[3] Cindy Herbek -- I KNOW I've seen her name, but can't call her or any posts to mind. One thing I would ask her about -- she'd like to READ the forum. Perhaps it's just the way she phrased it, but I want people who'll participate, so I'd want to check that . . . . Email: dh40203@navix.net

So, I bring these people up so that you can all think about it. If you want to discuss any one person particularly, perhaps you should start a separate thread. I am interested in hearing whether anyone has had contact with either Cindy or Gloria, or is particularly enthusiastic about either. Not going to do anything about any of these until I get back most likely, but you can think about it.

I hope this is my last post today! ;-)

I like Stan, but I can read him elsewhere. He might not be a good fit here, as he is kind of sarcastic. Lots of good bee info, tho. I'll go with the flow on him.

Gloria - No.

Cindy Herbek - No.

I agree with Polly about Stan. I've read lots of his posts on CS and I enjoy his humor...most of the time...but don't know if he'd really "fit" in here! Can't say about Gloria and Cindy. I have CRS right now about them and I'd have to research them.

I'm going to abstain on these votes. I don't know any of these people and if they don't work out, I want to be able to say I told you so. I will ask one favor from ya'll. If ya'll get another WOMAN on here, then please get us guys another male member.

Wildman, (feeling outnumbered)

-- Anonymous, April 02, 2002

I'll abstain with Wildman on these as Stan is the only one I know and while I like him, others may not feel good about his request for membership.

Although I am from the same state as Stan and have actually communicated a lot with him and like him............A Big No is my vote. Something is going on with him right now that is just bigger than I can handle. I don't recognize Gloria's name or address, and personally don't think that Cindy would be a fit, but have no serious objections to either.

Look, I liked Stan until all this weirdness started and now I think he must be having some personal problems, so no to letting him in here.

-- Anonymous, April 02, 2002

What Jay and Polly say! Stan is interesting and he has never personally done anything to me, even when I told him he was a jerk. But he does have this very strange streak that shows it's self every so often. I've never been able to figure his triggers!

-- Anonymous, April 02, 2002

Yea, he always wants to shoot or eat animals instead of trying to figure out ways of helping.

-- Anonymous, April 02, 2002

I'm with the others on stan. He generally seems ok but he went way off the deep end not long ago. I can see if he gets po'd at us our password would be all over the place.

-- Anonymous, April 03, 2002

I have to agree on the no with stan .He's acting very strange lately, and the two others I don't know ,but am not opposed.

-- Anonymous, April 03, 2002

Stan is oft times amusing but he is a provacateur and thrives on creating dissension so I don't think he'd be a good fit.

I'll have to abstain on the others as I don't recognize their names. Perhaps if anyone knows of them they could post some URL's of threads they've participated in?

If ya'll get another WOMAN on here, then please get us guys another male member.

I'm rather attached to the one I presently have but we could use some more men in here. Hahahahahahahahaha! : )

.......Alan.

Alan, that's funny! LOL

I with the NO's for Stan. I don't know anything about the others.

-- Anonymous, April 03, 2002

Alan - shaking head and rolling eyeballs - what a groan! Okay, so I did laugh!

Now - getting ready to get flamed: Gloria posts a lot at the goat forum, some at CF; Cindy posts at CF. Both fundamentalist Christians, I think; Christians who witness for sure. I just remember seeing them both quote scripture somewhere, which just happens to be one of my very big pet peeves. Other than that, they are sort of Melissa clones.

Oh Alan. Too funny! You have a weird mind! Maybe I should have stopped with "a male"? Doesn't it bother you that you're the only one that caught that? It bothers me because I probably have one of the weirdest minds around and I didn't catch the meaning and I wrote it! It does remind me of a joke though.

An elderly couple, Sam and Bessie, are vacationing in the West. Sam always wanted a pair of authentic cowboy boots.

Seeing some on sale one day, he buys them, wears them home, walking proudly. He walks into their room and says to his wife. "Notice anything different about me?"

Bessie looks him over, "Nope".

Sam says excitedly, "Come on Bessie, take a good look. Notice anything different about me?"

Bessie looks again, "Nope."

Frustrated Sam storms off into the bathroom, undresses, and walks back into the room completely naked except for his boots. Again he asks, a little louder this time, "Notice anything DIFFERENT NOW?"

Bessie looks up and says, "Sam, what's different? It's hanging down today, it was hanging down yesterday, it'll be hanging down again tomorrow."

Furious, Sam yells, "AND DO YOU KNOW WHY IT IS HANGING DOWN, BESSIE? IT'S HANGING DOWN BECAUSE IT'S LOOKING AT MY NEW BOOTS!!!!"

To which Bessie replies, "Shoulda bought a hat, Sam. Shoulda bought a hat."

Wildman, (shopping for a hat)

Polly, no flames here! You are just calling it as you see it. I suppose we can credit you with sanity and sound judgement? LOL! If this is the case then they probably wouldn't fit in here. One of the main reasons this board started was because of witnessing. And wasn't it one of the original rules for this board that there would be none of that? I think the temptation would be too great for them.

Well anyway, I trust Polly's judgement. And I would probably have to lean toward a no vote.

Please be careful about inviting some of the more um, vocal (cough) Christians here. As much as I try to love one and all (cough), this is one of the only forums where I can mention my faith and not have to get all over on it with folks. I can fight my religious wars elsewhere (hopefully nowhere, and never).

Thanks for the consideration. Just my $.02...

Why Polly would you get flamed?? I don't get it......I am with sheepish, our rules here were to not do the witness thing and to the best of my knowledge, we have stuck to it. I thought that was the case with Cindy, which was why I said I didn't think it was a match for her. Although I do frequent Melissa's forum in streaks, I am not familiar at all with the posters there as I almost NEVER lurk any place, but seem always inclined to leave some comment where ever I am. (not always a positive trait.......but me none-the-less) hugs......but I really don't understand the flaming comment, unless perhaps you would consider what I just wrote flaming...........hope not. Maybe I don't know what flaming is??

I agree about Stan. Ther seems to be a lot going on there that I don't want to be a part of.

I did google searches on Gloria and Cindy. Gloria seems to post mainly in one-sentence replies so it's hard to get a handle on her. I didn't see any scripture quoting or witnessing, unless it was in a thread that was later deleted. Cindy is slightly more chatty. She did mention on Country Families that her future son-in-law is joining her church, and that she feels the Lord is working to strengthen her relationship with her daughter-in-law, but it was said as part of the conversation and didn't feel like witnessing to me. The only scripture quoting I saw was in a thread titled "What's your favorite bible verse?". Maybe they also post under other email addresses and that's where Polly recognizes them from, or maybe the posts were deleted. Based only on what I read I don't think they'd be disruptive, I think they'd be bored.

Can't tell you when or where I read it; just remember it for some reason. Some names and people stick in my mind, dunno why. A lot of my reading (lurking) is done in the wee hours of the am when I'm home and unable to sleep. I'll read just about anything then!! I lurk, rather than participate, 'cause I am all too aware of how goofy I am at 0300! Plus, I really don't know much about goats, (altho I'd like to know more.)

I don't know that they'd be bored; all I know is that I have one place where I feel comfortable in my religion (or lack thereof) and I don't want to invite in folks who I think will be constantly judgeing me. I'll go along with what you all want; I was just explaining my position.

Gotta go - work beckons (yechhh)

-- Anonymous, April 03, 2002

I forgot to add to my previous message that since I don't have any strong feelings one way or the other about Gloria and Cindy, I'll go along with what the rest of you want.
