Sunpak 522 on R4/R4s

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

Does anyone know whether the Minolta Dedicated module for the old Sunpak 522 will work with a Leica R4 or R4s, and what dedicated features are obtained?

Thanks in advance.

As far as I know the Minolta dedicated modules work fine on the R4/R4s, showing ready light in the viewfinder. Your name seems familiar... did I sell you this R4s several years ago?

Douglas-

Yes you did. Nice camera, works fine, except that damn yellow plastic window keeps popping loose!

I'm specifically referring to Sunpak cat 651-053 MX-5 which is meant for XG and XD series Minoltas. Picked it up for a song at a garage sale, considering whether it is worth the trouble of using it or just eBay it! I certainly would like some assurance that it won't disable your erstwhile camera when I try using it. Not sure it is worth the risk/bother.

Adam,

I've checked my references (Bower and Kisselbach) and have not been able to determine conclusively that the Minolta dedicated modules work on the R4s. The 350, 351, 550 and 551 adapters are the correct models as far as I can tell. These set the camera's shutter speed to 1/100 sec and activate the viewfinder ready light.

Thanks, Douglas. Love your bird pix, particularly that owl...
