No contest is there?

So where's Jeffers?

-- Anonymous, April 05, 2002

He's currently standing in for the FA Cup on a promotional tour since Arsenal don't need him.

How did John Terry, considering his disciplinary record, get nominated?

My own order of merit is...

Thierry Henry (Arsenal)
Ruud van Nistelrooy (Manchester United)
Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink (Chelsea)
Robert Pires (Arsenal)
David Beckham (Manchester United)
Roy Keane (Manchester United)

Young Player Of The Year

Craig Bellamy (Newcastle United)
Michael Ricketts (Bolton Wanderers)
Steven Gerrard (Liverpool)
Darius Vassell (Aston Villa)
Ledley King (Tottenham Hotspur)
John Terry (Chelsea)

Any nominations for NUFC Player of the Year? I think Shearer is up there given his remarkable habit of scoring goals after serious injury and on the brink of 200 PL goals. Robert has been outstanding and a revelation on the left. Bellamy's pace opened up our season in December and New Years. But Given must get the award for proving to be simply the best goalkeeper in the country.

I'll have a tenner on Pires and Gerrard, please. Not the two players who I think deserve it, but probably the ones that will win it.

For me it would be Henry and Bellamy.

Given would be on my list.

For me there is no other choice than Given. Too bad he didn't make the PFA short list. I hope Bellamy wins the Young Player of the Year, but can't see it happening. We're just not a fashionable club.

I'm not being remotely nationalist or trying to make an issue of this, but where is Sami Hyypiä of Liverpool? He has been nothing short of brilliant this year. I guess its more difficult for defenders and goalkeepers to make the cut?

Mark Lawrenson reckons that young player should go to Stephen Gerrard beyond a shadow of a doubt: great news for Bellers.

Gerrard has spent most of the season injured.

To be honest I would say Hamann has been more infuential for Liverpool than Gerrard this season.
