Should we "rescue" george?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Beyond the Sidewalks : One Thread

There's another batch of odiferous eminations coming from CS. I know a few of us have been posting on the 2 threads, for those of you who haven't been there I'll just say that it's another episode of gay-bashing with some pretty offensive language that Chuck is refusing to delete. Apparently it doesn't fall under his forum rule of "no name calling".

My purpose is not to drag that discussion over here, but to propose a sort of emergency member nomination. Those of us who still visit CS may remember george in nh. He has made a plea for another forum which allows gay homestaders without hatred. IMO george has always conducted himself with good humor and grace under similar attacks, and he tells great stories. If you'd like to check out his posts, google search under rcoopwalpole@aol.com. I don't know george and I haven't contacted him directly so I don't know if he'd even be interested in our little group. I just thought I'd see what you all think.

Answers

Sounds fine to me.

I don't give a hoot what his sexual orientation is if he's well behaved in public and wants to discuss homesteading. He's good by me.

Okay by me, he's always seemed nice enough to me.

Maybe he and some of those other folks who are disgusted will go over to Phil and Cheryl's forum too; I've been posting over there a bit, plus e-mailing, and they seem like real nice folks.

Yes, I've exchanged a few private emails with Cheryl, and she's stood up for me a time or two over on Melissa's forum. I like Phil's herb listings too.

-- Anonymous, April 02, 2002

Bring 'em on. I think there will be lots of folks jumping ship.

Phil and Cheryl's?

-- Anonymous, April 02, 2002

Thumbs up on George.

-- Anonymous, April 02, 2002

I just checked, and the post is now deleted. I say welcome to George, too. We need a few more folks over here. Maybe there's a few others.

-- Anonymous, April 02, 2002

Uh. DUH! Don't blindside me with these things when I'm trying to get ready to go out the door. I stopped in for one last check and to say "see ya later", and I find THIS! ACK!

My feeling is that there isn't enough time to check and see if anyone objects. My suggestion is that George be steered to Phil's site, Country Homestyle or whatever it is, until we can see if anyone objects to George. That said, I won't be able to get back to this forum for several days (cousins DO have a computer, but I don't know when I'll get to it) -- so you guys do what you think is best.

I have no personal objections to George. I do wonder if we have ENOUGH homesteading stuff to keep him interested.

I tried to find the thread with all the fuss, but as noted, it's deleted. Chuck posted this explanation: http://hv.greenspun.com/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg.tcl?msg_id=008bPk

I haven't been to CS in probably a week, so I have no current idea of the state of flux there.

Don't worry Joy, I had no intention of doing anything until you return from your vacation. Now that the posts have been deleted hopefully the ruckus will die down.

Hey...I lost my "cereal" poll :-(!! Anyways, I've read some of George's posts and he seems okay to me. After all, he's a fellow New Englander!!

Have a good trip, Joy!

-- Anonymous, April 02, 2002

Enjoy your trip Joy, we will all be fine until you get back. It got pretty ugly, to be sure. George seems like a nice guy, but I do share the concerns that this would not be what he is looking for. He is a very new homesteader and seems really in to it. Phyl and Cheryl have been in contact with him, and I think he will most likely move over there. I certainly have no problem with him being invited here.

-- Anonymous, April 02, 2002

What?! George is a New Englander? Well, OK, but I insist that we invite a Southerner in too then! : )

Is that faint noise the sound of history repeating itself? Hmmm... : )

I vote yes for George-seems like an interesting person.

-- Anonymous, April 02, 2002

So far, it seems like everyone is voting to let George come onboard but I think there's one thing that most of you have missed. Someone said the he's from New England and if I remember right, they seem to pronounce their words funny and have a hard to understand accent. I have nothing against George but it might make his post hard to understand for a old Southern boy.

I hesitate to bring this up but I think there's a possibility that someone on here has something against people of the other persuasion. Consciously or subconsciously. Where's EM? And why did she leave?

I say Okay fine. Bring him on.

Wildman, (approving)

I got me some cotton seed to plant in the garden this year, Alan; along with my okry - d'ya feel a little less outnumbered now?!

-- Anonymous, April 02, 2002

Duh! Phil and Cheryl; ie: Country Style Homesteading, on the Lusenet listings. Sort of almost kinda like CS was at first. Still small. Mostly nice folk.

-- Anonymous, April 02, 2002

Hey...when it comes to being outnumbered here, I do believe that Dee and I are the only New Englanders here :-)!! Correct me if I'm wrong!

-- Anonymous, April 02, 2002

Marcia, I mentioned the loss of the cereal poll in the second thread of Chuck's.

I told Jay in a thread over on CST that half of me is VERY southern the other half is New Englander. I say George is a go! I can play all sides!

Susan

Thank you, Susan!!

-- Anonymous, April 02, 2002

Gee, I never thought of myself as a New Englander before. I like George too.

-- Anonymous, April 02, 2002

"I hesitate to bring this up but I think there's a possibility that someone on here has something against people of the other persuasion. Consciously or subconsciously. Where's EM? And why did she leave?"

Wildman, I would imagine that EM is chosing to not post right now because of a disagreement we had that had nothing to do with sexuality. I wish that it had never happened and I miss her. I don't know that for sure and I would imagine if it were not she would be telling me, "get over it.....not everything is about you!!!" :>)

I can not speak for anyone else here, but I have examined my heart very carefully and am quite certain I have nothing against "people of the other persuasion" either consciously or subconsciously. I am hoping that my slight hesitation about this being the place for George didn't give you that impression of me because I actually think he would be a fun addition to the forum.

Thumbs up!

Gotta go...
