Best Time Of Year To Start Double Services??

greenspun.com : LUSENET : The Christian Church : One Thread

Is there one??......or do you just do it when you get things in place??

For instance.....do you want to do it after the summer vacations??....or is that a good time to get the "bugs" worked out??

What say you?

Danny,

When we first went to two services we announced that we were going to try it as an experiment for three months. We started in October and went through December. At the end of those three months we realized that this was the right direction to go, but there were a number of bugs to be worked out. We announced this to the congregation, went back to one service with the understanding that we would be going back to two. We waited until September to go back to two and have now been with two services for a year and a half.

Announcing this as an experiment with a specific time limit has obvious benefits:

1) If it totally flopped, we could gracefully back out.

2) If it was successful we could build on it.

3) It gives you time after the experiment to reevaluate, revamp, etc...

I have had a idea about what to do when a congreation gets to large for one service. Why not have some of the members go to a nearby sister church and help out especialy if it has a small congreation,so they might be able to grow to.Just a thought.Just like when Jesus told the fishermen to cast there net on the other side and the Lord blessed so much that they called there sister ships to help with the catch because it was to much for one ship.

Chuck,

That is a possibility, but our purpose for going to two services was not primarily because we didn't have enough room, but because we wanted to grow. We viewed the second service as a vehicle to bring more people in. We are now considering adding a third with a little bit different style of music. In other words, we view multiple services as tools for outreach, in addition to an additonal opportunity for worship.
