Both the 1N and its successor the 1V are full-featured heavy-duty professional cameras. The 1V adds support for E-TTL flash, 45 focus points, improved water and dust sealing, etc.

The 1N RS is a 1N with a solid pellicle mirror (realtime) which does not flip up to take a photograph. This allows it to shoot at a very rapid rate with virtually no shutter lag time.

Lots of differences. The 1v has more & faster AF sensors. E-TTL flash metering. Faster motor drive. More weather proofing. etc., etc., etc. And it costs more.

The 1n RS has a semi-silvered, fixed pelical mirror that does not move, so the camera can shoot faster and the viewfinder does not black out while taking the picture. The down side is the you loose 1/3 stop on the film and 2/3 stop in the viewfinder. And you can't ever let the mirror get dirty, and if it does you have to be very careful how you clean it. The 1v is enough faster than the 1n that Canon evidently decided not to make an RS version of it.

Not only is the 1n RS faster than the 1n, but NK Guy's faster than me.
