convert avi files to DVD player compatible files

Hi, I was wondering if someone can please tell me how can I convert AVI Files into the format that can be played on my normal dvd player? Is there a software I can download for free?

Besides DVDs, you can also make VCDs to be played in your player. You can use "TMPGenc", "Panasonic MPEG-1 Encoder", or "Xing MPEG Encoder"....to encode your AVI files to VCD/MPEG-1 files.

i was wondering if its possible to convert avi's to mpeg's in a short amount of time instead of waiting for hours

No bro, im afraid theres no other way. I was hoping the same thing, so i researched and found as much crap as i could. But if u want the quality, and dont want that lipsynch issues, then tmpgenc is the only way to go. U could try Nero's encoding, which is gonna take about 3-4 hours. However, u will get the lipsynch. Gets irritating.

Actually guys i can do that porcess in like 30 minutes with the program that u guys sugested...... but you need the hd space to do it :(
