So you think you know the rules do you?

I got it wrong, but don't go on the site yet, if you do don't put the answer on here yet.

Team A is awarded a Direct Free Kick (DFK) from outside their penalty area. A Team A player takes the kick but it goes straight in his own net. What is the resulting restart?

I would imagine the restart would be delayed for some considerable time to allow the colleagues of the Team A player to beat him to a pulp for being so bliddy stupid.

The goal should stand.

They wouldn't if they knew the rules.

Try again Jim.

Corner.

What do you mean by "resulting Restart?"

Just the result?

Like does the goal stand etc.. or something else.

jonno's got it.

Jammy sod, I thought it would take a bit longer to guess.

What a stupid rule though, I see no reason why it shouldn't be an own goal.

It should be an own goal for sheer stupidity and/or incompetence. ;-)

Yep - corner - the rules (from memory) say something like - Direct Freekick - a goal can be scored against the opposition. I did my refs course in 1978 and the 1st class (1st Div - John Hough) ref who took it didn't spot this until we highlighted it on the course.

I think it has actually happened - in the days of back passes a free kick back to the keeper went in the net when he missed it.

Yes... a good one that!

there was a case (from the Conference I believe) a couple of years back where a player chipped the ball back to his own keeper... but well wide of him. The keeper sprawled across his box and got his fingertips to it but failed to keep it out. GOAL! Silly begger should have left it but instinct took over.
