greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I got a flashing arrow sign where the 14 light bulbs sticks out in the weather(regular screw in 60 watt bulbs).Every time it rains the cold rain hitting the hot bulbs creaks and burns out over have the bulbs. The sign is 25'off ground and it's not easy to replace the bulbs plus the cost off the bulbs.Does any one know of anything to stop the rain from killing my light bulbs. Thanks

Check at your local " big box" store for bulbs that are construction grade. The have what appears to be a skin on them and it keeps the bulbs from popping. They might cost more but they have a much longer life.

Coat a standard bulb-completely-even the screw part with petrolium (spelling?) Vasiline jelly. Wears off after awhile.

What you need is shatter proof lamps. They are made to be in a wet environment. And yes they do cost more but if you figure in the cost of having to replace regular lamps everytime it rains you will find they are much cheaper.
