Lolo blathers

I don't think last week's interview was posted...anyway, it's on nufc.com at:

http://www.nufc.com/html/robert-51.html

This week:

This afternoon, Newcastle destroyed Everton 6-2. Those of you who were ineffective last time have made up for it!

It's clear we were really effective. Personally, I didn't manage to score and it was difficult to get the ball on my side. The few chances I had, I knew how to exploit and I made three decisive passes. On the other hand, I couldn't hold my place for the whole match. In the 74th minute, YBR replaced me with Olivier Bernard.

Why were you taken off?

Yesterday I had an MRI which revealed a muscle tear by my coccyx. I was able to hold my place but the coach wanted to relieve me. Because we play again on Tuesday, it's better that I don't push myself.

How did you deliver these three key passes?

Well, we went 1-0 down and I made my first decisive pass for the equaliser. I made a long 20 metres pass that went straight to Big Al. He only had to knock it in the back of the net (that's it Lolo, endear yourself to the skipper a bit more). For the second goal, I drew two defenders and crossed to the near post, mid-height, to Cort. He scored with a side-foot(?) My last decisive pass was a corner which arrived on O'Brien's head.

When Everton came back to 2-2, how did the team react?

In the 1st half we didn't control the game very well. At half-time we got together and had a chat to sort ourselves out. We had to start playing football and stop wobbling. We showed a different side to ourslves in the second half, which produced four more goals.

So with this win you are putting pressure on the top 3?

Completely, particularly as we have a game in hand. On Tuesday we must continue the same way and take the points at Villa.

Do you think you'll be playing on Tuesday?

We'll see. I have time to recover. Bye, have a good'un.

This must be the same torn @rse muscle he had earlier in the season that is still bothering him.

So he's been carrying an injury for months but hasn't had it sorted? I always thought a muscle tear was as serious as it gets and they need to be repaired or they cause irreversible damage.

Still, two assists and a corner from which the goal arrived isn't bad for someone with a torn @rse.

He's still moaning about not getting the ball enough on the left. IMHO he gets the ball about as much as Nobby gets it. With JJ and Dyer in the team, he might get the ball even less.

Still he played well I thought.

I still think Nobby gets the ball a lot more than Robert gets it.

Take that wonderful cross field ball that LR played yesterday, switching the play from left to right. When has Nobby ever switched it like that?

You can't really ask for more than 3 assists to be honest, anyone who says he played crap yesterday is blind to the facts.

The bloke behind berated him saying he couldn't cross to save his life - about 2 minutes after Cort had scored. Some people have very short memories.

His previous injury was a hip problem.

Where is your coccyx?

-- Anonymous, March 31, 2002

It's the bit that would be your tail, if you had one. (If you're still not sure, ask Peyter Weed.)

L. Coccyges. L., cuckoo, Gr. ?, cuckoo, coccyx. So called from its resemblance to the beak of a cuckoo.

Well, I never knew that.

"......I made a long 20 metres pass that went straight to Big Al. He only had to knock it in the back of the net.".

That would be Robert's throw in that Shearer cleverly ran behind the defence to create, turned and ran into the penalty area before striking a superb 20 yd drive past the advancing keeper and just inside the far post!

Yeh, perfect memory Laurent! ;o{)

Hmmmm - I think too much can be read into that sort of answer. After all the question was about his (Robert's) contribution. Had he been askjed "How good was Shearer's finishing?", I'm sure the answer would be weighted differently.

One comment I liked the sound of was "In the 1st half we didn't control the game very well. At half-time we got together and had a chat to sort ourselves out." This certainly gives the indication that they are working as a team. I just wish they would get together and "sort themselves out" before the kick-off!

thats when nobbs plays his trumpet isn't it?

Jonno - I'm always conscious of this with LR's interviews. A lot of this perceived arrogance/false memory syndrome is down to the fact, as you say, that it's his website and thus the questions are about his contribution. The people who post on his forum - and thus the main constituency for his interviews - are generally Laurent Robert fans, not Newcastle fans, so I suppose you have to give him a bit of leeway. It would be nice to hear him interviewed elsewhere, but he'll need to learn a bit of English first...

-- Anonymous, April 02, 2002

......you mean like learning the English for "throw in" isn't "pass"! ;o{)

-- Anonymous, April 02, 2002

That may be the fault of my translation...he claims to have made a "touche longue".

-- Anonymous, April 02, 2002

Hhmmm - good point Dan. No good relying on mon Francais I'm afraid!

-- Anonymous, April 02, 2002

"touche longue" is a French Pass then?

-- Anonymous, April 02, 2002

Saying that, it was a good throw in. At least he had the vision to see Shearer would be in a position to get it, as well as realising (unlike the Everton defence) that there are no offsides for throw ins.

I always wonder why Distin comes forward to take throw ins when Robert has just as good a throw on him. (in terms of length)

-- Anonymous, April 02, 2002

Dan, touche is French for throw-in in football or a lineout in rugby.
