Winning the premiership

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

This conversation may have already occured on here lately but I have to admit, I want Man U to win the league! Shocking I know and probably 'not good for football' but the thought of that slimey Wenger winning or Liverpool makes me sick. Thompson on the TV last night was such an arrogant tosser - 'we WILL win the league' he says. We'll see. At least Arsenal are a good team, Liverpool are sh*te IMHO.

So both Arsenal and Liverpool say they will win. Man U say very little. I know who I think will win it.

Lynda, don't you think it's time for a change?

Don't you believe that Ferguson (apart from recently) is the most arrogant manager in history?

You obviously haven't been to South East Asia recently, where even Presidents and Prime Ministers sport Manure regalia on their cars, and EVERYONE 'supports' "Man U" :-(

I can think of ONE decent alternative to all three teams mentioned above. Surprised it hasn't crossed your minds ...

-- Anonymous, March 31, 2002

Not Chelsea Jonn, surely! ;-)

I have to agree with Lynda. As much as I hate Roy Keane and the fans my hatred for Manure has dicipated somewhat. Thing is they don't do all that talkins bollocks anymore. They just get on with it and play amazing football. Yes it would be good to see a change but I can't stand Arsenal's arrogance (they're like the Old ManU) and Liverpool are just bloody dull. Wenger is a CNUT!!!

jonno marra, you're well aware which team I STILL hope can win this year's PL!

I was amazed (and somewhat dismayed) at the cheers and smiles that came upon this BBS yesterday, when all the teams above us kept winning (when I wanted them to lose), all because many of 'us' have decided the Toon cannot possibly win it and are now opting for the least painful scenario :-(

I hear what you say Bud - but you're just an old romantic!

I'm being realistic here.

Even if we do win all of our remaining matches, which is quite unlikely, Arsenal would have to drop EIGHT points as well as have a worse goal difference than us. Basically 3 defeats.

For a team that is on the best form of their season and one that has only lost 3 games all season, for them to lose another 3 with only 7 to go would take a minor miracle.

Champions League football is a realistic target and one we should aim for. What difference does it make whether we finish 3rd or 4th at this stage when the reward is basically the same?

I'd rather have a guaranteed 4th place than a possible 3rd with a chance of 5th.

I will be more than happy with 4th place. Obviously this could change in 6 games time if the teams above capitulate but it's a hell of a lot of points to make up on Arsenal, as well as the small matter of games in hand.

I think 4th has a qualifying game to play, whereas 3rd is straight into the league.

It is funny how ManU have managed to pass the on the mantle of "it" to Arsenal.

This of course supports the oft-made contention that it was not ManU's success that made people around the country detest them, but the fact they were such bad winners. It is arrogance that turns people off not success.

Wenger has seamlessly inherited the mantle, while ManU have shut their mouths and just got on with the job.

It would be good for the PL for someone other than ManU to win the title this season, but like most people, it would actually pain me to see Arsenal win it after all their shenanigans and quite appalling disciplinary record.

Did you hear what the Deportivo coach said about Wenger? It was plain, blatant straight from the heart truth and it was great to hear.

I can't find exact quotes but he basically said Wenger was a whinging unsporting git who was a greet big tosser. (or words to that effect)

.....so, he's a Geordie then Paul?

-- Anonymous, March 31, 2002

Bud...how come everything "bad" about Manchester United ig gauged from what U see in Singapore?

It's a big world out there matey.

Anyone but Arsenal. I f**king HATE whinger. Him, O'Leary and Hoddle are my 'Axis of Evil' in English football.

Also, I want US to be the team that breaks ManUre's grip on the title. If the Scousers in particular do it, we'll never hear the end of it. Arse can have the FA cup. It's not as bad going out to the winners I always think...

I Want ManU to win it, I Think Arse will win it. I'd hate it if PT and GH won it because:

1. They're not good enough - nothing close to as good as Arse. 2. They tap players up. 3. PT says 'Pool are going to win it. 4. B@st@rds always beat us. 5. They're Jammy, Jammy, Jammy - e.g. Look at the Chelsea match.

In fact I'd love them to drop enough points that they finish 4th behind us. More realistically if we did make 3rd I think ManU would be 4th - purely because of the matches they've all got left.

If not us, then I want Manure to win it. Hate Wenger, Phil T p*sses me off (not sure why) Don't mind Alex too much.

Hate Arsenal players, particularly for Highbury 3-1. Don't know how to get beat and just can't take it.

Liverpool. Too boring.

3rd reason is that what would you rather. Say we win the Premiership in 2003.

What looks better...

ManU 99 - 00 ManU 00 Arsenal 01 Liverpool 02 Newcastle 03

OR

ManU 99 - 00 ManU 00 ManU 01 ManU 02 NEWCASTLE 03

Thats my main reason for wanting ManU to keep winning it until we do. I want NUFC to be the team that is remembered for ending Manure's dominance.

Of course I'd take either of the above.

LR, it's almost the same in Hong Kong, Jakarta, Bangkok, Luala Lumpur and South Africa - all of which I visit / live in /work in regularly.

It just so happens (fair play to Man Utd. here) that you've won the PL so easily and so often, just as TV / merchandising have snowballed world-wide.

Sir Alex is on record as saying Man. Utd. have more 'supporters' in Singapore, than in ANY other individual city (including Manchester!)and, that as Singaporeans (per capita) are so rich, he'll happily play pre-season friendlies here, just to line the coffers.

As for the 3 "Man U" cafes here...

Jim, how can you put Arsenal down for winning it in 2001?

I agree with your reasoning though, it would look good on the record books.

Hey, vous meens nous deedn't ween eet in year deux mille one? Merde! Mais vous must know nous deserved to gagne et eet was just malheureuse that le Grande Winge avec le visage rot l'avez gagne. We are ze bestest team in the monde et everybody knows. Eef eet was up to moi, I would ban heem and l' homme vielle Robson because zey are not French. Vraiment you must know ze Frenchies are going to rule ze PL. Quand mon best ami Gerrard est tout meillieur, and le Lollypop Tigna 'as un better field, les top trois places dans le Premiership will be took par les Francais. Et un autre thing. Eet ees not fair pour avoir des players Francais dans les other teams. Je vais complainer a l'FA to have zee other Frenchies banned. Pas de Robert, Bernard, Distin et des others (mais non Des Amilton). Non, if nous cannot have them, zey must not be allowed a jouer au PL. Zoot alhors!
