Matches cancelled?

Will the Queen Mother's death mean that the following weeks matches will be cancelled?

Does this mean we can get Bellamy properly fit before unleashing him again?

Got your priorities right there, bonny lad.

Doubt it. Nice if it happened. This business of "and we've still got Dyer and Cort [ie as well as Bellers] to come back..." I'm interested to see how that works out.

First thought I had on hearing the news. I doubt it though as it was hardly a sudden unexpected event. The appropriate silence will be held.

I can feel that there will be 90 minutes silence at the ssol on Monday.

Not confident at all.

Leicester have got nowt to lose, have they sk? You get that most years - teams that are already down have a strong end to the season because they can just go out and enjoy themselves.

I would not be shocked if we didn't win.

The club has a cancer and it doesn't realise it.Although it has had it for years Murray seemed to think that moving grounds and getting promoted cured it. It didn't.

Returning briefly to the topic:

They haven't even cancelled bliddy Stars In Their Eyes on ITV: I think its fair to say that the matches are going ahead.

hey she's been dead for 20 years, when was the last time you heard her speak ? Radio 5 had to play stuff from the war for God's sake. I think she died of a heart attack when Devon Loch 'fell'

Macbeth - you have every right to be a republican, but ffs please show an iota of sensitivity, spare us from your sick untimely "humour" on this subject, and show just a modicum of respect for the deceased of barely a few hours.

okay when am I allowed to speak, and can I ask you all to stop being sycophantic royalty lovers while I grieve in my own way, or am I only allowed to post if I tip my cap and bow down in front of the Windsors

Macbeth, I'm not a royalty lover as they are not relevent in today's society IMHO. That does not mean I do not repect what certain members of royalty have done with their "gift". I also can't abide what 90% of them do with their privelege.

I do know that the QM had the respect of my parents and she was an inspiration to their generation.

I'm sure that, with your attitude, you will enjoy disrupting whatever "silence" is asked for at the next match.

i would absolutely keep my silence, not allowed to be otherwise, but I really can't think of one thing she has done since her husband died that warrants any more respect than any other person, her being such a wonderful person seems very much to be the empress's new clothes

Returning to the original question...the football authorities are meeting later today (Sun)and you would expect minute's silence, black armbands and that sort of thing.

BUT the current speculation is talking about a funeral a week on Monday or Tuesday, which will be a national day of mourning. Should it be Monday, it might impact on the Fulham match - presuming it hasn't been moved again while I wasn't looking.

can't think of one thing she has done since her husband died that warrants any more respect than any other person

"can't think"? - How true. That lack of ability to think certainly doesn't justify the disrespect shown above.

enlighten me

i have no time for the royals, the original fat cats. I dislike the acceptance of bowing in front of another human being just cos she married an old king's second son. I don't hate her, in the way I say hate Mrs Thatcher, but I can see what Mrs Thatcher did, why others can list many achievements of her political career. I don't see any comparable achievements from Queen Mother, particularly in my lifetime.

When I can't think I need the more enlightened of you to help me remember. I'll help you with ..... she lived to be over 100.

Can't say I lost any sleep over her death. She lived a very long life and died a peaceful death. A lot more than many on here will get. I cannot understand people "mourning" her death unless they knew her. Would she have come and sat outside my house and lay flowers if I had died?

Obviously not. I obviously show respect etc, don't rejoice, keep 1 minute silence. But there's no need to go to great lengths to show how much it hurts because you feel it should do. And there is nothing wrong with MacB coming on here and questioning why he should care.

Sympathising with those close to her is a different matter. I feel sorry for her friends and family.

Funeral is Tuesday April 9th.

-- Anonymous, March 31, 2002

Some old dear's popped her clogs, so what ? The whole country shouldn't grind to a halt because of it.

She warrants no more of my respect than does any other person that I don't know personally. I sympathise with her family's grief, but only to the extent that I would with any strangers who suffer berievement.
