Meeting people from the forum!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : A Country Singletree : One Thread

Well, I just wanted to let everyone know I have met, in person, someone from the forum. Sherry and I got together this evening for dinner. It was great! I had my youngest son with me and she brought her youngest son and we met at a resturant for a meal. She brought me gifts of fresh eggs and one of her very cute ornimants she makes and sells. It is a little bunny and it will be great in my office. She also brought me a baggie of Amish Cinnamon Bread starter. I of course felt and still feel very guilty as I didn't bring any thing for her. I had the day from hell (see post on full moon for details). Anyway we had a wonderful time, or at least I did. I hope we will be able to get together again soon.

I was wondering if any other forum members have met? I have also met Jay but only via IM with voice and a web cam. Who else has had this wonderful opportunity? If not from this forum maybe others!

Too Cool. Maybe we should try to set up a "messenger night" sometime. We could run multiple text windows to simulate "3 ways"(I do all the time :>).

Is this forum just about country single girls meeting other single girls and single guys meeting other single guys? I've read posts of planned get-togethers where only females are invited, but nothing about normal guy-girl get-togethers. Or is everyone here just interested in discussing the various problems and complexities of being single in the country?

Bruce, You've got a hot potato there.........

I'll sit back and see if there's any forth coming pontification!

Bruce I think I am as confused as you must be. Perhaps I don't quite get your meaning! Are you implying something you would like to clarify a little more?

(Jim-mi, how was that clam enough for you)

Susan, Help....clam.??

That's a good question Bruce? It would be nice to meet some of the people on the forum. I just met some people from the homesteading_texas@yahoogroups.com . We met at the Canton First Monday Trade Day ( Canton, Texas). I would like to meet some of the people on this forum but I live in East Texas, which seems to be a long way from the rest of ya'll.

Susan,

What I meant is, is this a forum whose main aim is for single people to possibly meet and form long or short term relationships, or is it mainly to pass on useful information which might pertain to singles in the country, such as worm farming and such. If it's merely the latter, I would think that the regular Countryside forum would suffice.

I'm not single, so I've not been angling to meet any single folks from this forum. I have met people in person, that I first met on the Countryside forum though - 2 folks from Kentucky (well, 4 really; two couples) plus someone who only lives a short distance from me. It was really great to meet them; and to visit back and forth!

Bruce, the answer is yes! Both of those things are what I feel this forum is all about. One of the reasons this forum came about is so we wouldn't offend (for lack of a better word) others when we would digress into the woes of singeldom. This forum is not exclusive by any means. We have people who are married, like Polly, who come here often and contribute. Everyone is welcome but we do tend to drift to the more single minded way some of us have of doing things. The women's get together that Susan (the other one)is putting together is just for the women who wish to go. I can't speak for her, but If I were to plan something like this on my new property I might do it the very same way. Sometimes you want to feel safe and with unknown men one might not feel so safe having them know where you live if you are alone. I don't mean this so sound sexist but it is a reality of being a woman, there is always some jerk out there who can't be trusted. I know it works the other way around too. What was that movie, "Fatal Attraction". I think it would be great if the guys had a get together. Stan or Jim-mi could host it and perhaps we could all arrange to meet over a bonfire and eat somemores. That is up to them. Some of us have tossed around the idea of gathering at the Renewable Energy fair in Wisconsin.

Bruce give us your ideas, we all own this forum, some of us are more opinionated than others. Some of us just like to play devils advocate and stir the pot. Mostly we have fun!! Welcome and join in.

Thanks for clarifying your point!

Good post Susan,

You made me think of a sidebar I'd like to put up here. For any and all considering going to the Energy Fair, I would suggest you get a camping space reservation made soon!! The new fair location at Custer WI. has very limited on site camping. There is a lot of sites at the original Amherst Wi. grounds...But they go fast. There is to be a shuttle bus running between those two locations. Just one day at the fair will not do it justice, hence the camping. I speak from the experience of going to the fair since 1993. I am allready prepaid. I hope some of us might meet there!

Susan,

Thanks for your nice response. My post was mostly out of curiosity, since within the last few weeks, I've met a lady who I think I'd like to spend the rest of my life with. Now, my job is to convince her. Could be a major task since I'm a dedicated hermit.

Susan, It was nice meeting you also, we had alot of fun. I didn't mean to create guilt by the gifts. I give gifts without ever expecting anything in return. hmmm. although you did pay for diner! I think it would be great for all the people going to the energy fair if we meet up some where. What do the rest of you think? Sherry

-- Sherry (tlnifty@ecenet.com), April 01, 2002.

Sherry, Yup...me too........Folks the energy fair is a whole lot more than just PV panels. There's over 100 workshops stuffed into those three days. The keynote speaker is Sarah James--Artic National Refuge Activist.....that should be most interesting.

May I suggest you take a look at their web site http://www.the-mrea.org

Susan brought up a good point about safety. In this day and age , a guy in a place with a group of women, might have to watch out also. Some women are spooky or just plain mean. I had to rescue a friend from a date because he found out the girl was an abuse counselor by day and a dominatress by night and had some serious personal conflicts to address. It was a good thing I found him before the patrol questioned him about walking down the highway in his boxers (which explained his collect phone call :>)

Patty, Do you suppose the guy got a little more than he bargined for???

snicker, hehe

-- Jim-mi (hartalteng@voyager.net), April 04, 2002.

He was proberly thrilled at fist until things got out of hand.I laugh everytime I think about it .Well at least she left him with his undies!

-- Patty Gamble (fodfarms@slic.com), April 05, 2002.

I still chuckle about it, especially when he registered the "where's your sign " look on my face when he said "don't worry , I'll pay for the gas." as he climbed in the truck in his drawers. That night I vowed that I would always be a homebody. :>)
