LANSING -- Gov. John Engler announced Wednesday that he's appointing a team to review finances in the troubled city of Flint, which has accumulated more than $28 million in debt.

The move could force the delay of Flint's mayoral election, scheduled for May 7. Under a law Engler signed this week, Flint can't hold an election to replace recalled Mayor Woodrow Stanley until the review team reports its findings.

The team, led by state Treasurer Doug Roberts, will have 30 days to review the city's finances. Deputy state auditor James Neubacker, former state budget director Mary Lannoye and DTE Energy Vice President Nick Khouri are among the team's eight members.
