A few vcd questions

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

Hey ppl i'm new here and have a few Q's to ask. 1. If i d/l a movie of the net, will it be better quality if i burn it to vcd and play it on my dvd player(which plays vcd, cd-r etc)rather than on my comp screen?

2. how big would a good quality vcd be?

3. If i d/l a movie that has a resoloution, which is the same as a vcd players resoloution (320x240 or something like that) does that mean it will look good full screen on a t.v?

these questions prob sound stupid but im new 2 this stuff. thanx in advance to your help.

No, your ?s don't sound stupid

1. You can NEVER get better quality than the original, so what you d/l is going to be the best quality you will ever see.

2. vcd are encoded at a fixed bit rate so you can only burn 72 min of video onto a cd. now the quality depends on how good the source was. if the source was poor the bit rate will be uped to meet vcd bit rate, note quality will not improve (if anything it might even look worse - depends on original frame rate, video size, etc). if the quality was good then you will get a good quality vcd.

3. yes/no. yes if the frame rate is the same as for vcd (ntsc/pal at least 24 fps). no if the frame rate is less than that for vcd because it the video will be filled with extra frames to make desired frame rate for vcd M
