Question re polyester sheath-polypropolene core rope

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Mountaineering : One Thread

On Barrabes.com I came across a "canyoning rope:" the Beal 9.5 mm Cilaos. This rope has a polyester sheath and polypropolene core. It's static and is designed to float, for rapelling canyons.

Someone told me that this kind of rope is only good for "wet" (waterfall) rappels and that just a few "dry" rappels would trash the rope because it wouldn't be able to tolerate heat as well as nylon. Can anyone comment on whether this is true or not? Thanks!

Info on the rope is at http://www.beal-planet.com/produits/anglais/produit5.html

It's described as follows: "THIS STATIC ROPE HAS A POLYESTER SHEATH FOR ABRASION AND HEAT RESISTANCE, AND A POLYPROPYLENE CORE TO ALLOW IT TO FLOAT. DESIGNED FOR USE IN WATER, IT DOES NOT SHRINK WHEN WET, AND DOES NOT SINK TO THE BOTTOM OF POOLS. ESSENTIAL CHARACTERISTICS FOR SECURITY."
