Non footy - Good Friday?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

I'm not interested in religion in the slightest and I haven’t been in a church in years (weddings and christenings apart).
I’m going to the match on Good Friday but I feel I shouldn’t. Good Friday is the day Jesus died after all and I think it’s important to respect other people’s beliefs.
I’m surprised that not one word about this is anywhere to be found. What does this say about England?

and christmas day is supposed to be the day that jesus was born but that doesn't stop you from having 4 pints at lunchtime followed by 2 bottles of wine then falling into a drool punctuated sleep in front of the bond film does it?

it's been nearly 2000 years, you've gotta get on wi ya life man!

I'm surprised this thorny issue has been resurrected. Perhaps a minute's silence would show due respect? Or it's rumoured there might be a re-enactment with the crucifiction of Marcellino. I'm not going to get cross about this - I'll just wash my hands of the whole thing.

Whilst not having any faith myself, beyond my belief in YBR's ability to walk on water, I do have a high respect and regard for religion. So if a sizeable proportion of the country was protesting about Good Friday matches, I daresay I'd be happy to see these games moved. However I haven't heard a word against these games so I have no qualms about this.

If Marcellino was crucified on Friday would he rise up again ready to play at Villa on Tuesday?

Nobody is to stone anyone until I blow this whistle even , and I want to make this perfectly clear, even if they do say Jehovah.

Why is it called Good Friday in England? After all it is the day Jesus died...in Sweden we call it Long Friday, better?

-- Anonymous, March 27, 2002

Lenny Bruce the brilliant American Comedian speculated on what would happen if Christ returned now in America. He wouldn't be crucified - he'd get the electric chair. In 2000 years time Christians would be walking around with little electric chairs on gold chains around their necks.

Friday would be quite appropriate then just as it is...

I'll just say a short prayer of contrition before getting me coat...

Pah. we did away with the chair years ago. It's lethal injection now. So have to update those crucifixes to have him strapped to a table with a needle hanging out.

Hopping back into my handbasket.... :-)

Off topic I know, but I am hoping to make a hat for the Jubilee with a little diorama of Charles Stuart having his head cut off enacted on the top of it.
