3rd Place

looking at the table it is quite a realistic possability for us to finish 3rd and automatic qualification for the CL. although we are 8 points behind manure we do have 2 games in head and a potential 6 points. if we gain those 6 points we are only 2 points behind them and they still have to play leeds and chelsea away and the @rse at home so there is a real possibilty of them dropping points!

Don't bother LR...it's a battle you can't win...i've tried for years now to make some of these people see sense and they just refuse :))

Games in hand do not equal points, how many times has this been proven to us in the past?

Yes 3rd is a possibility but it's unlikely given our current lack of form and the form of all the teams around us....out of all of them Man Utd are looking the most shaky....and I include Leeds/Chelsea in that group....

like i say gav IF we gain those 6 points

My predictions spreadsheet still has us finishing third, ahead of Liverpool, strangely. I think YBR has been hacking into my computer because he also reckons on 22 out of 24 points in the last 8. This is entirely doable, and anything less than that will be an underachievement. Sod these shirkers, they haven't given us a decent end of season run in since 1997: they owe us.

But Gav, those games in hand DO mean 6 points. Just not to us. Usually. ;-)

My prediction is missing out on the last CL spot on goal difference. Whether that's 4th or 5th place, I'm not sure as my head threatens to explode whenever I try to figure out the convoluted qualification system.

We are not 8 points behind Manure, we are effectively 9 - there is no way we can catch up their goal difference (IMHO).

Possibly due to a few days of sunshine, I'm feeling positive again about our prospects. From now on in, the battle is in the mind more than anything. It's oft repeated and accepted that we are not as good as the ManU, Liverpool, Arsenal, and perhaps also Chelsea and Leeds. However, this is COMPLETELY irrelevant to where we finish, since we don't have to play any of these sides. The pundits seem to think that our place in the league is inextricably linked to how good we are in comparison to the sides around us. This may have been true when the season started, but is not the case now. I get the feeling that we, the fans, also believe there to be some sort of meritocracy of placing. Hence back to the comment that it's all in the mind. Forget where we are in the league, take each game as it comes, and we should stand a very good chance of actually finishing 3rd. B'llcks to those that say we aren't good enough.

If it was dependent on the minds of the supporters, we'd have no problems. Unfortunately, we have to rely on the thick minds of the players, who seem to believe their summer hols start in March each year. However, if Bobby can't get through to them, I don't think anyone can, and he doesnt' look like giving up yet. :-)
