Mackem Misery

Yesterday I had my first ever look at RTG - it was an accident, I clicked on a link from .com's Newsnow service which took me there, but while I was there I thought I'd have a lok around. I know it's fairly well documented that a lot of them are a bit pissed off at the moment, but I hadn't appreciated just how close to relegation some of them think they are. I thought they were fairly safe, but here's an analysis from one of their letters - rather them than us in that position......

"Lets look at the remaining fixtures

Arsenal Away, 0 goals and no points ?

Leicester Home, 1 goal and a draw ? We never do very well against this club for some reason and I can not see it changing now.

Leeds Away, 0 goals and no points ? Do we ever get anything at Elland road ?

Liverpool Home, 0 goals and no points ? Again they always beat us at our place

West Ham Away, 1 goal and 1 point ? I am being optimistic !

Charlton Away, 1 goal and 1 point ? I am being optimistic !

Derby Home, 1 goal and 1 point ? Too late prob. anyway !

so 4 points onto our total of 35 = 39 points. Not enough to stay up is it !

Reidy, can you not see the state of things ? Time to go I think and get new faces. You should have spotted this at Christmas and used the transfer market for some wingers and quality passes of the ball to feed SKP."

Think they'll probably beat Leicester at home, but most of the other results seem very possible. Could be an exciting last day of the season for all sorts of reasons!!

some guy also did an analysis that other would be proud of showing well (or not) they have done historically against their future opponents, its conclusion was also 3-4 points. Very tense, but really there are so many sides trying to get relegated that they should be okay.

Imagine how Rob Lee and Barton would feel having to go to SoL for the last game of the season !

Personally I want them to beat Arse, Leeds & L'pool.

Id like to see them battling with relegation every season, but not go down I allways prefer Local derby's..

Quite by accident, of course it was Al. You wouldn't want to admit to indulging in a schadenfreudic fascination with your local rivals...not behaviour befitting a vicar methinks.:oD

That post you quoted is not far from the truth. You won't see us very often these days, we tend not to be on TV unless we're playing one of the top 3, but we are utterly abysmal.

That is a horrible run-in. Yet how ironic that most geordies will be hoping that they at least take something from arse, leeds and pool. I for one would be happy if they did, as long as we are winning. So our fate is indirectly in their hands.

....that's just wor bloody luck - we've got nee chance! ;o{)

Despite my unswerving loyaly to Newcastle, I have always wanted the North East teams do well. I am hoping that both Sunderland and Middlesborough finish off the season on a hgh note, not only because it will help us, but also better them than their opponents.

I'm with you there floridian, I don't care if the Mackems finish second and the Smoggies third, as long as the Toon finishes first!

I definitely don't want either of them to be relegated.

OK, on second thoughts, make that 2nd. and 3rd. above the relegation spots!

I wonder where Southampton will be in the table when we play them. Could it be us that puts the Mackems down?

-- Anonymous, March 27, 2002

Actually on second thoughts I reckon they're pretty safe, both Southampton and Sunderland that is.

ML, it was an accident but I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy lingering for a while.....
