Why di E. A. Poe become a poet and why did he write the stuff he did?

Baudelaire expresses the divine "curse" very well in his more mordant poem. In his youth he was taken by the Muse, especially of melancholy, the acquaintance of apartness and loss being strong in inspiration as his love of language was strong. He was playful with verse as well. His failure at West Point was a double defeat in that having abandonned the military for writing, his fellow cadets did not appreciate his serious poems. That led Poe to be somewhat reticent in his claims to be a poet(less so as a critic) until his success with The Raven. He was always falsely self-deprecating, trying to describe his verse as more of personal passion than art by his own high standards. After the Raven he was in all popular descriptions named chiefly a poet.

well (I think) Poe became a poet bc he just had alot of thinks going on and writing them down was sotra his way of getting he's feelings out there. It was kinda of a way of thearpy for him. just think if you had like you dad leave when you were young the your mother dies and your foster-dad won't help you out and not give you any $$ the your foster mother dies.. and your whole life is turned upside down and you just want everything to be right agaon.. Everyone is Poe's life had died before him and he was left there all alone. Maybe this helps and then again maybe this doesn't.

I think Poe became a poet because he was lonely...he had no one to turn to because everyone in his life died. Or maybe it was because his last name is poe....you can't spell poem without poe!!
