Can anyone tell me which is better for encoding vcd's. Divx and virtualdub or Tmpge. Or am I supposed to use all three

Divx really has nothing to do with VCD. It's a completely different format. Virutal Dub is more useful for recording AVI files than encoding VCDs. I would recommend that you use TMPGenc.
