Eos-3 or a EOS-1N

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

I am looking to upgrade my Canon A2E camera.

I am looking for a stronger build (70-200mm/2.8 and 300mm) Grip for AA's, able to use AF assist on flash Does NOT need to have E-TTL (my metz and sunpak doen't use it) I liked the eye control on the A2E, but I shoot mostly verticle, I dunno if the EOS-3 does verticle. faster autofocus is always a plus.

I can get the EOS-3 or the EOS-1n for about the same price (within $20)

what would you take?

The EOS 1n had a great reputation when it was the top of the line Canon camera but the EOS 3 was built to the same specs. The 45 point autofocus and flash system don't mean much to me but the more capable autofocus of the EOS 3 make it the choice. The EOS 3 does allow ECF on verticals.

Not that people won't be happy to respond anew, but your question has been asked many times in this forum. Look for the threads comparing the EOS 3 to the 1n & 1V and the EOS 3 to the Elan 7 (might be helpful, too). I think those threads will give you a pretty complete picture (so to speak).

EOS 3 has to be the easy winner. It is so much more similar to the EOS 1V than the EOS 1N. The AF is faster and more capable (F4 cross- type, F8 single-axis), the metering more accurate, E-TTL flash, shorter viewfinder blackout, ECF, etc....
