Perhaps it's no co-incidence that all the defenders are at the top and now are making terrible mitakes every game.

Lies, damned lies and statistics etc, but do I see L3 up there with the best goals per minutes played ratio?

-- Anonymous, March 26, 2002

Great work Softie - an interesting read. I was surprised to see Nobby so near the top as he is the most subbed player. You're right - I think a few need a rest.

Just a thought, but what about getting Macmanaman on loan for the rest of the season (especially if Real pay his wages). Would allow Solano and the like to get a rest and he is playing for an England place, may help us on the final push....

Softie, after Arse killed off Saturday's game in the first minute I was thinking of how we seem to take ages to get going. Do you have any stats on goal times? It would be interesting to see if we've scored any this season in the first few minutes.

Steph, I've just had a quick look at nufc.com and it would appear that we have only scored 1 league goal in the first 15 minutes

And conceded 5

Thanks Kegsy, that doesn't surprise me!

YBR hates Macca, so that won't happen. Solano, Shearer, Hughes, O'Brien and Dabizas are all knackered. I think we all know that Shearer/Cort is not a Champions League pairing, so we should be looking to have just one on the pitch at any time, paired with a nippy'un like Robert, Dyer, Lua Lua or even Chopra. Give Bernard a go at LB, shift Big Sylvain over, and if O'Brien is too tired why not recall Gary Caldwell from Hibs to try and get him to stay here? Aaaaaaaaron may have to tough it out in Griffin's absence.

Why does Uncle Bobby hate Macmanaman?

-- Anonymous, March 26, 2002

interesting we've only had one red? Funny if berb don't like Macmanamenamanenamaman, I quite rate him. (says it all)

Wasn't Bellamy's red overturned ? If so, why is his counted and Shearer's isn't ? Or have I developed Bobby's memory ?

-- Anonymous, March 26, 2002

The disciplinary panel left the red card but waived the suspension this would have brought. In effect it hangs over him as a warning against bad behaviour as he would have missed 5 matches if he picked up a second red during the season. Good compromise and probably helped him to curb his outbursts a bit.

Ah, I see. I wasn't around when they overturned it so I only heard that they had and not the details. Are they allowed to give a player a red card and not punish him ? Which rule does that come under then ?

-- Anonymous, March 26, 2002

I think it was because Graham "I am a total wanker" Poll wasn't prepared to rescind the red card but the disciplinary panel are in charge of setting punishments. Therefore they ban players as though they had received reds (e.g. Henry) and realised that they could likewise chose to waive a player's punishment if it was deemed unjust. In Shearer's case the referee overturned his own red card on seeing the incident on television, which he is entitled to do. It is quite probable that the red remained on his record as a warning over the number of times he has been cautioned over foul and abusive language without being sent off.

I wasn't aware of that - if Poll refused to back down over Bellamy's red he should be sacked on the spot. I'm perfectly prepared to accept that ref's make heat-of-the-moment mistakes but if he watched that on tv in the cold light of day and still thought it was a red then there's no hope for him.

ADK - sure that the constant stream of abuse that keeps on coming from Bella's during the game more than contributes to his record ...

-- Anonymous, March 27, 2002

Yeah but he wasn't sent off for being mouthy he was sent off for an elbow that didn't happen. You can't refuse to rescind the red card just because he might have deserved it for something he may or may not have done in another game. 9 yellow cards is ample punishment for his mouthiness, surely.

you could always treat him like a refugee and sew up his lips .... oh I'll go straight to hell for that one

John Howard and Peter Reith will be there to meet you!
