Fogg Bags?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

Has anyone here ever used a Fogg camera bag? I have seen the ads for them, but have yet to actually meet someone who uses one. I note that they are somewhat pricey. Jack

Actually, I use two. The first (which I've been using for over five years)was designed for the M and provides adequate space for one camera (including a lens)and up to three additional lenses (assuming two are attached.

The second bag is perfect for up to two bodies, four lenses, the portable tripod and head, a separate meter, and some additonal stuff without being too large.

Yes, they are pricey, but well made and reasonably (as any bag is) ideal for an M user.

I've got a Fogg Celia. They were calling it a Balalaika when I bought it, but it actually says Celia on the label inside. The first of the two bags that Al refers to sounds like it might be one of these.

Mine is generally very well made, but let down slightly by one or two details. Like the pads of leather under the feet, two of which are nice thick leather, but the other two are rather thin. Some of the feet are a bit loose too. Overall I'd say the Billingham bags show a consistently higher quality (I've got a Hadley Pro).

But can you still get the Fogg bags? After Fogg moved to France they were imported to the UK by Fieldgrass And Gale (that's where I got mine from) and more recently by Robert White, but neither of them now sell Fogg bags. Where are you? If you're interested in a bag the size of the Fogg Celia, have you seen the Billingham Alice (corny names huh?)? This is almost identical in size and design, and I expect it's a lot cheaper.

I think Fogg bags are still available through Tamarkin. Beautifully made bags - not as padded or weatherproof as Billinghams though. Practically speaking, I don't think they offer much over a Domke, and Domkes are waaaaaaaay less expensive.
