fanny pack for 2 M6s with 35, 500 'crons attached

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

I've got the Lowepro Camera pocket which holds 1 m6 with lens attached and another lens in reserve. It will also hold 10 rolls of film in the outer pocket and some flat items (keys, shutter trigger, good luck charm) in the inner pocket. I can even fit the Metz 34-CS2 if I don't mind the tight fit.

And the fanny pack still fits nicely tucked under an untucked shirt or a vest that no one notices and isn't too cumbersome for me to wear. I take my camera with me everywhere. With my Nikons, I carried a Domke bag everywhere to the annoyance of my girlfriend. Also, people noticed my bag.

And, when I'm actually shooting (especially in a theater) it doubles as my spotmeter holder and used film holder.

I'm saving up for an M6 TTL once the M7s go into full sale and shooters start trading in their used bodies. I'm looking for a fanny pack that will hold the two bodies and lenses but not be so bulky. Essentially, something between the Lowepro camera pocket and the Lowepro Field Reporter. Big enough to hold my Leicas but small enough to look like a casual fanny pack worn by a tourist or somebody that just likes walking around alot.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Hello Victor,

Have a look at the Lowepro sideline shooter. IMHO it's the best fanny pack for the needs you describe. It was designed by a guy working for a newspaper in my area and I think it's a well thought out bag. I've traveled extensively with it and have been very pleased. Hope that helps.

Victor: I'd suggest the Lowepro Photorunner. BILL

I have the Sideline Shooter and I carried it all over SE Asia with a Nikon F100+70-210 zoom nestled the long way in it, along with an SB- 22S flash and a 20/2.8. For a slimline pack it holds quite a bit. The thing I didn't like about it was the lack of shoulder strap attachments. Another thought is to get a generic fanny pack and pad it yourself.

I've been using a LowePro Omni-sport, which has waist-belt, shoulder strap, handle, top door for one-camera access, face door for inside access. It could hold all your stuff plus meter and flash. It's a little big for a fanny-pack and a little small for a shoulder bag, which is just right for me because I use a 135 and 90 mm along with the 35 mounted on the body. I like the top access door for just removing the camera when needed. Good luck with your search. Cheers, Pat.

Victor,

Please see my post in a thread begun 03/19/02:

"Suggestions Needed - Re-Designing M Classics Bag"

I found a PERFECT M bag.

Eagle Creek...forgot the name...thought it discontinued...saw it at a Wolf Photo last Sat...forgot the name.

PERFECT for one SWC and M + 50 'cron., OR, with a second padded velco'd divider, three M's w/non-tele lenses mounted OR two M's + lenses AND two teles (or four shorter lenses or film or meter.) I've been using one for more than five years.

It comes with two D-rings so you can pick your own straps. I picked two laptop computer case straps w/C-shaped pads; one over the shoulder, one around the waist; not too tight as to distort the bag; tight enough to keep the bag in place; no swinging around.

Approx. 9" long, 6" tall, 4" wide

EASY AND FAST

Oh,

It's black nylon, top loading not counting the slim internal pockets, and cheap $25.

I may buy another and have one kit w/SWC and M6 + 35 or 50 'cron

AND

M4 + 21 SA, M3 + DR + 90 TE + meter

two diff. kits depending on the app.

I am surprissed that Jay didn't recommend the Domke F-5XB bag. A great soft, and compact bag that will fit what you need, is inconcspicuous and is smaller than the Photo Runner. Just don't get black because it will attract dust and hair!

The Tamrac 601 Expo 1 bag is the smallest bag I have been able to use for two M6s w/lenses attached. It has a shoulder strap (the "normal" way to use it) and also staps that allow you to use your belt to make a "fanny" pack. The cameras rest back to back on their sides (lug ends) in the bag, with the lenses facing out toward the sides of the bag.
