What is the connection between Poe and the South Carolina barrier islands (specifically, The Isle of Palms and Sullivan's Island)? Is it somehow related to "The Raven"? Thanks!

Poe was posted to Fort Moultrie, Charleston, South Carolina in November 1827 until December 1828 when he was reassigned to Fort Monroe, Virginia. Poe reached the rank of Sergeant Major while serving in the United States Army. His stay in Charleston had little to do with "The Raven" and much to do with his tale "The Gold Bug".
