Does anyone know if different diocese are financially interdependant? I am an orthodox Catholic and was asked , by a neighbor , if contributing money to a local parish would possibly result in that money being siphoned off to some other Diocese in the US for sexual misconduct payouts. I had no answer. Does anyone know. Thank you Bill

It is my understanding that each parish is incorporated unto itself, so I would assume that each diocese is also incorporated unto itself. However, in practice, I am sure that whatever monies are collected by a diocese can be shunted off to different parishes for even things like, say, embezzlement. Now, whatever portion of what the diocese collects that gets sent to a higher authority can also probably be shunted off somewhere as well.
