Time to share. I think it would be great for us all to share our favourite photo(s). Not our best, but our favourite(s). If that is your best, well so be it. Maximum 3. Also please state "why!"

It is preferred if you create a link to the picture, rather than posting it on the page. This will allow the page to load faster.

I'll start: Photo 1: Erlina- This is my favourite because it's the love of my life in beautiful lighting. http://www.photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=652573&size=lg

Photo 2: Bromo boy- Somehow this irritating boy turned out fantastic in the picture. http://www.photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=542809&size=lg

Photo 3: Flinders and Sax- My first successful cityscape picture http://www.photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=545137&size=lg

Here are some of mine. I've noticed that the pictures, which look great on my Mac, can have a greenish cast on PCs. May be the calibration.

Well, I'm in the middle of reworking my website www.zoeicaimages.com All images taken with a Leica, either a LTM or M camera.

-- chris a williams (LeicaChris@worldnet.att.net), March 24, 2002.

Jack, where are yours? and how do we make them clickable?

Maestro, love th images, especially the chinatown boy. What lens did you use to capture that image and the one of the lovely chinagirl?

-- Kristian (leicashot@hotmail.com), March 24, 2002.

Hi Kristian,

Both of the images you referred to were shot with the 80/2.0 and 45/2.8 lenses for the Contax 645, respectively.

The one with the body was cropped significantly, and thus the image quality suffers a great. (But I like the coarse look.) The one with the beautiful girl was not cropped. The original sldie of this picture, in particular, has such enormous brilliance/dynamic range and amazing 3-dimensionality that really wasn't captured by the scan. (Was shot wide open!)

-- Maestro Logos (Maestro_Logos@mac.com), March 24, 2002.

Maestro, those lenses are sharp! of course you already know that. If I ever grab a medium format camera, I'd opt for the Contax too. Do you have a Leica, and any images?

-- Kristian (leicashot@hotmail.com), March 24, 2002.

Hello All: Here are two of my favorite photos:

What do you think?

-- Doug Landrum (dflandrum@earthlink.net), March 24, 2002.

Hi Kristian,

Yes the Contax 645 lenes are great, but I eventually sold the system. My favirote subject being candids, the 645 was too large and heavy a camera for that purpose. Also, the longer focal lengths (of the format) and the greater mirror slap meant that I needed to shoot wide open to get enough speed. But the 80/2.0 lens is rather soft until F5.6-8.0, compounded by the inherently shallower DOF of the format...

So I got an M6 (and eventually an R6.2). To me these are much better cameras for candids. Unfortunately they've had some reliability problems... (See my recent post in another thread.)

However, that shouldn't discourage your from trying out Contax 645 (or other 645 cameras) for yourself. Maybe you'll feel differently. The Zeiss Contax lenses (135 or medium format) are truly spectacular. Not as sharp as Leica ones wide open, but they have a rather charming warmth and richness/intensity of colors that I miss on the Leicas. Great for available light candids. (In my opinion, Leica lenes tend to be more neutral.)

Lastly, I have yet to scan any of my Leica images. Once I've done that, I'll be pleased to share.

-- Maestro Logos (maestro_logos@mac.com), March 24, 2002.

I like these all of which were shot with a M6 and 50cron. They are not necessarily my best technically or artistically, but they are pictures of people I love.

Mathew, thank you for providing the clickables; I hate it, typing these long links! Thanks once more.

Good shots, have another look later. Especially liked the Maestro run and the night shot with the musician.

Best wishes

Thanks Matt. Much easier. IS it a simple thing to do?

-- Kristian (leicashot@hotmail.com), March 24, 2002.

Matt, great pics that have captured your family beautifully. I love the expressions.

Doug, nice images, but I am not too sure why they are your favourite.

K.G, where are your pics. You are always contributing info on the net and it would be great to see some of your work.

-- Kristian (leicashot@hotmail.com), March 24, 2002.

Hello Kristian,

thank you for your interest. I have quite a few photos around me - but do not know how to do it, putting it into the net I mean.

If you want to have a look: you can see two photographs of mine on the site of the (German) LEICA historical society. The adress is: Leica-Historica.de, the photos are shown under >LESEPROBEN<

Best wishes and good shooting

-- K. G. Wolf (k.g.wolf@web.de), March 24, 2002.

I'll post some recent photos, but in the interest of honesty regarding your post, the term favorite really can't apply. These are simply some photos that I have scanned and posted on a site. My favorites are contained in boxes and boxes stacked to the ceiling from 30 years of shooting. For the life of me, I don't even know how to start to get them into my computer.

I hope you like this mix of Leica and Nikon shots.

Kristian: All I have is a very cheap flatbed scanner. In order to post a photo I have to scan a print, which lends itself to pretty marginal images. BUT, here are a few I have done so with anyway, not necessarily all-time favorites, but images I enjoy. All were shot with Leica:

Cuban Mother

Amanda

Big Cigar! Tony has posted instructions on how to make links clickable in the archives. Cheers,

-- Jack Flesher (jbflesher@msn.com), March 24, 2002.

For those of you that want to know how to post an image, this is what you need to do: The link to image, is most likely the URL you have been using in the past... this is an example link for Kristians, first image at this on this thread: This would produce a link like this:

-- Matthew Geddert (geddert@yahoo.com), March 24, 2002.

that should be post a link to an image, not post an image, to post an image inline you write: <img src="__link__to_image__">

most people will want to center that image and add a small caption, so then you would write: <center><img src="__link__to_image__"><p>Caption Text</center>

-- Matthew Geddert (geddert@yahoo.com), March 24, 2002.

Here are a few favorites of mine (that are already scanned and uploaded) and why.

"such a classic girl" (reminds me of a great day with a exceptional person)

"state of mind" (different kind of day, different kind of person, but memorable)

"Tongdosa, Summer '96" (a long time ago in a world far, far away . . .)

-- Mike Dixon (mike@mikedixonphotography.com), March 24, 2002.

Hello All: Here is a resubmission of the favorites that I submitted before - with my reasons for choices. I am trying Matthew Geddert's tips for posting hot links to my shots - I hope that I get this right.

The Scoutmaster This photo captures the essence of a very gentle and dedicated man. It was taken very early on a cold morning at a Boy Scout camp near the California coast. It's my tirbute to an honorable man that has helped a number of boys grow closer to honorable men.

Metal Worker - Hanoi I like this photo, taking in extreme overcast in Hanoi, Vietnam is a busy market area. The Vietnamese are very enterprising by my observation. This man's work methods would drive OSHA crazy. The other thing about this shot is that the slide (Fuji Sensia) pops but printed on Ilfochrome its muddy. Scanned and printed on my Epson, it pops again.

Here is a new submission:

Retired Longshoremen I like this photo because it captures the mood of some old longshoremen in San Pedro.

What do you think?

-- Doug Landrum (dflandrum@earthlink.net), March 24, 2002.

Sorry, I did something wrong on the first two links.

-- Allen Herbert (allen1@btinternet.com), March 25, 2002.

Great to see you like this thread. Somehow I imagine it to be surprising it hasn't been done before. At the end of the day, no matter what equipment we use, or how much we think we know, the end result is the IMAGE. Sharing our favourites gives us all the opportunity to share a piece of ourselves, even after ridiculous conflict and childish arguing. I'm enjoying it........the photos that is!

-- Kristian (leicashot@hotmail.com), March 25, 2002.

Stephan, I love STRIP

Although i am a little biased because I am a (excuse the french) a "breast man", a real sucker!. Lighting and composition are to die for.

Gouglas, your burrowing owl picture is probably one of the best portraits I've ever seen. Absolutely beautiful. Sharpness, detail, bokeh, subject expression, forground blur, background blur, exposure, etc.

Fantastic!

From Kristian "Somehow I imagine it to be surprising it hasn't been done before. At the end of the day, no matter what equipment we use, or how much we think we know, the end result is the IMAGE. "

Nothing wrong with your initiative or your focus Kristian, but I personally really have a hard time understanding why people who want to discuss their own images or view the images of others do not simply use the dozens of excellent web sites and lists that specialize in photo critique.

This is an equipment centric list (a *Leica* list). I do not come here to view or show images. I come here to discuss Leica. I might however be interested in posts that show specific pictures that might highlight certain particular imaging behaviours of certain Leica lenses (as Mike's pics often do). But I am personally not interested in seeing your private photo album in this particular framework, or in seeing other posters private albums and, even less, in sharing my private photo albums here. This can be done elsewhere with a larger and more educational echo.

This does not mean that I have no respect for your or their images. Simply I really do not feel this is the place. I believe I am not the only one with such an opinion.

There is therefore nothing surprising in the fact that such threads are in the minority. If they became too recurrent or overwhelming on this bulletin board (as the horrendous PAW project that has been infecting the LUG/LEG), most Leicaphiles who come here because they are interested in discussing all sorts of hardware trivia would simply have to migrate to other lists...

OK I had nothing to do on this thread, nothing forced me to check it up, and I have no right to disrupt it, so....

-- Jacques (jacquesbalthazar@hotmail.com), March 26, 2002.

Leicaphiles who come here because they are interested in discussing all sorts of hardware trivia.

Well, well well.if that is the only purpose of this Forum....what am i doing here.I would suggest a statement on the front page of this Forum stating what can be discussed. All posting subjects to be submitted for censorship by......I thought we lived in a Democracy.Unless it is the case of a small(interest group)trying to impose their will on everybody else.My thoughts are if you do not like the subject of a posting....do not read it,move on.

-- Jürgen Schliehe (juergen.schliehe@t-online.de), March 26, 2002.

I don't belive that I am chatting with robots. I believe I am chatting with human beings, and more specifically people who take pictures. To get to know a photographer, I believe it is essential to see another's photo(s). What's the point of knowing everything about Leica cameras if we can't share and discuss what we do with them?

I ain't a collector. I am a keen photographer, who soemtimes waistes too much time explaining myself on forums like this. Pity!

For those who don't have a problem, keep posting your pics.

-- Kristian (leicashot@hotmail.com), March 26, 2002.

kristian.

i would suggest that you post another thread with the same title as this one and catagorize it so we can fid them all again. i know that i want to post some current work but don't have easy access to a scanner. i will be posting it on this page however.
