The LUG

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

I read on here about the LUG and would like to know where to read it. I thought I had found it and wound up getting a bunch (I mean a ton) of crap emails about people hauling moose on their car and a lot of other chit chat back and worth with little talk about Leica. Is there a similar forum to this on for Leica users or is this one here the best there is? Thanks, Dayt

Dayton: Let's try this...

You found LUG, Moose crap and all... ;-)

You might want to check out http://groups.yahoo.com/g roup/MUGers/, which is a dedicated M user discussion group on Yahoo. Cheers,

The LUG is very much an acquired taste, Dayton.

This one right here is the best there is. In fact I'm hard pressed to name any other photo forum that stays on topic as much as this one.

The LEG, at www.@topica.com is a better Leica forum than the LUG. Go to Topica.com at search for Leica.

This forum(greenspun), is by far the best.

I agree with others here - this Greenspun forum is probably the best online Leica forum at the moment. Sometimes there's useful info in the Leica Customer forums, although you've got to be suspicious of horror stories getting vetted.

I have links to various Leica forums in the FAQ I maintain at: nemeng.com/leica/ 001a.shtml

Leaving Leica content aside - the LUG is still a wonderful entertainment medium. Check it every couple of days and watch for developing sLUG-fests between this or that pair of **soi-disant** experts.

The LUG motto - "Ad hominem per astra" - or, "Let's win arguments by calling each other names to prove what Stars we really are."

Not to mention moose-hauling, single malts, underwear for lens cleaning, the Hexar .03mm dust-up, and other gems. (Ooops - I guess I DID mention them.) 8^)

I get the digest since I'm interested in the Family of Man 2 five-year photo project, and Alistair Firkin delivers his updates via the LUG. Their archive is also searchable - it's a good adjunt to this place, along with Andrew Nemeth's FAQs, Doug Herr's R-reviews, and a bunch of other fairly specific sites.

But this is still the most informative - and politest - forum.

Nnnhhh! to clarify - I get the LUG DIGEST VIA E-MAIL...etc..etc..

I agree the best way to get what there is of topical interest from the LUG is to subscribe to the digest and open from the archives what is of interest. Otherwise, you find yourself deleting some days what seems to be hundreds of "messages" about who knows what.

LUG has a front door at

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/leica-users/

You can sign up there and get emails

Once you have signed up you cannot escape,e-mails forever.

-- Allen Herbert (allen1@btinternet.com), March 23, 2002.

I haven't signed up, I just look at the archives (at http://mejac.palo-alto.ca.us/leica-users/) from time to time (like: if this forum is down and there's not much of interest on the several Topica lists).

Thanks to everyone for their input. I now know where to go to get the good stuff without the moose crap. I agree, it does seem like this is a great little community we have here on Greenspun. -------------------------------------------------------------------
