Fluid stumper

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Country Families : One Thread

What naturally found, organic fluid can be used to increase the volume of the human blood system during periods when blood loss is life threating?

A note to our new readers; those of you who have joined us late please note that the use of search engines to find stumper answers is considered a no-no around here. Dictionaries, Miz Cleo, phoning your BIL, ask your kids, casting a spell, tea leaves, ect are all OK. but not search engines

In the ER we use 0.9% normal saline, which I'm told is about the same concentration as salt water from the ocean.

Casting a spell????? You been watching late night TV again Mitch?!!!

I would say salt water as well.

-- Melissa in SE Ohio (me@home.net), March 22, 2002.

Casting a spell is not within my capabilities, casting a bait net is still OK. There is no water or salt found in this naturally found, organic fluid.~ ~

apple juice???

-- Melissa in SE Ohio (me@home.net), March 22, 2002.

Is it milk?

-- Cheryl in KS (cherylmccoy@rocketmail.com), March 22, 2002.

Wine? Hey, if nothing else, you won't care if you're bleeding!

really stumped here... no water whatsoever in this fluid?

-- Dave (multiplierx9@hotmail.com), March 22, 2002.

I would guess that there is water of a sort in the fluid, but no water is added to whats all ready there. This was discovered in WW2.~

corn syrup?

-- Dave (multiplierx9@hotmail.com), March 22, 2002.

Plasma?

Naturally, occuring, would also have to be sterile in it's original form so I'm guessing urine.

-- Polly (jserg45@hotmail.com), March 22, 2002.

One person has came close to providing part of the answer of this fluids name which is simular to the word used by the reader. The guess is vastly different from the fluid I am seeking that was found out about from the left side. ~ ~

I am stumped! Maple syrup...

-- Melissa in SE Ohio (me@home.net), March 22, 2002.

Another hour passes, you all are not putting the clues together you have: 1. A natural, organic blood substitute. 2. discovered in WW2. 3. left side (of what?).

Nature gives us this fluid and it was produced right in an area where it was needed.~

New question: What is Xerophobia?

-- mitch hearn (moopups@citlink.net), March 22, 2002.

Fear of copying machines? LOL Just kidding,I have no idea on this one.

-- Johna (marcnjohna@aol.com), March 22, 2002.

Either a fear of cacti or fear of photographs? Fear of getting your picture taken?

I need to brush up on my Latin.

-- Laura (LadybugWrangler@somewhere.com), March 22, 2002.

Fear of being dry?

Xero is a Greek (not latin) prefix meaning "Dry"

(my 11th gr. English teacher taught us our latin & greek roots - yippee)

-- heather (h.m.metheny@att.net), March 22, 2002.

Correct. Fear of dryness. But I now see that I must turn "phobia" questions around; such as ______phobia means fear of clothing?

-- mitch hearn (moopups@citlink.net), March 22, 2002.

hold on here Mitch..I'm still stumped on trying to figure out what you meant by 'left side' ; )

-- Dave (multiplierx9@hotmail.com), March 22, 2002.

left side of what Mitch? I believe you, just can't connect it together...

-- Melissa in SE Ohio (me@home.net), March 22, 2002.

vesta-phobia or vesti-phobia?

(I can't figure out the 'left side' coconut milk thing either - do you mean from the WEST???)

-- heather (h.m.metheny@att.net), March 22, 2002.

Mitch...I was thinking maybe you meant the opposite of left is right...and the opposite of right is wrong. So,maybe you were referring to our enemies when you said'left'?

-- Johna (marcnjohna@aol.com), March 22, 2002.

Mitch, what's your source for the coconut milk info? I worked in a blood bank for almost 10 years and I've never heard of that before, I'd like to learn more.

-- Sherri C in Central IN (CeltiaSkye@xaol.com), March 22, 2002.

I'm with Sheri. I read a LOT of WWII stuff and I've never heard of this before. I don't doubt you, but would like to read about how they figured that one out. That has to be an interesting story.

-- John in S. IN (jdoofus@hotmail.com), March 23, 2002.

Vestiphobia is correct.

Further info for blood is at: coconut milk blood war - in google.

Left side is in referance to location, have you not heard of the "left coast"; the war in Europe was on the right side (of the map); left side is for the pacific area, where coconuts grow.

-- mitch hearn (moopups@citlink.net), March 23, 2002.

More info is at: coconut milk blood plasma - again google.

-- mitch hearn (moopups@citlink.net), March 23, 2002.

So, all you medical people out there:

Coconut Milk as a blood PLASMA substitute, would be different than a blood substitute, right? I'm thinking that PLASMA is part of the blood.......hhhmmmmmmmmmm......
