I am a beginner-intermediate photo-taking fan whom is about to purchase a Nikon camera but will like to know whether nikon F55 will be a better choice compared to F65. I have read about the QD fault in F65, is that rectified? F55 has the "seems like plastic" ring at the housing where the lens fit on while F65 has a metal ring, does the material matters? Wat would be the pro's and con's of F55 and F65? Thanks for the advise/assistance!

Answers

From a brief perusal of the specs, here are the biggest differences I could spot:

- N65 has five focus areas, N55 has three.

- N65 has CW metering circle in viewfinder, N55 doesn't.

- N65 has DoF Preview, N55 doesn't.

- N55 uses center partial metering where N65 uses CW metering (both have various matrix options, as well)

- N55 has five segment matrix meter, N65 has six segments.

- N65 has IR remote, N55 doesn't.

- N65 motor works at 2.5fps, N55 at 1.5fps.

- N65 weighs approx 395g, N55 weighs approx 350g.

Disclaimer: I haven't used either camera. This was just what I got out of looking at the paper specs.

Joe, I just purchased an F55, and you cannot use any of the old Nikon lenses because the Exposure metering does not work, a massive limitation. Also it has limited flash functionality. It really is the Nikon bottom line AF SLR. So I should have brought an F65 or F80. If I was to do this again I would buy the body I wanted then the lenses independantly. You can get some good second hand body and lenses deals.
