So this is late. This is a puzzle poem, easily solved. Given on Vanetin's day,1846 at a party thrown by Ann Lyh=nch(Poe did not attend)). Griswold, Osgood's biographer probably solved it because he kept the copy. It was printed a week later(intended?). Hidden in the lines he had screwed up Osgood's middle name so he revised it. After a couple attempts it was finally republished in that tragic, hectic year of 1849 in two magazines at the same time causing some embarassment regarding publishing rights. Pairs to another coquettish puzzle poem containing the name Sarah Anna Lewis "An Enigma".first letter of the first line the second letter of the second etc.reading the hidden name down. Iambic pentameter, alternating rhyme. The last line is longer in order to get to the last letter of Osgood's name. No one's perfect.
