Standard Poodle, Anal Gland Surgery

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Poodle Support Group : One Thread

My 1 and 1/2 year old Standard Poodle had on-going very full anal glands. We had the anal glands removed 2 weeks ago. According to my vet he is healing up nicely and the stitches have come out. I am trying not to get too worried about a problem, as I know he is still in the healing phase, and the vet has put my mind at ease somewhat. Here is the problem, and I would like to know if this is a common occurance. If he starts barking at a car or a bird or something out the window, he will lose a marble (sorry, stool is the correct wording here). It's not much, but he doesn't have full control. The vet says that it's normal at this stage, and it will take time for him to get all the control back. She said he is healing nicely.

I am fully understanding of him needing more healing time, but I am starting to feel really guilty about putting him through this if it doesn't get better for him. Please let me know if you have had similar problems, then I can relax. Thanks so much, Diane
