Pullman plan numbers for ACL and/or SAL lightweight carsgreenspun.com : LUSENET : ACL and SAL Railroads Historical Society : One Thread
Does anybody out there have any info about plan and lot numbers of Pullman-built ACL and/or SAL lightweight cars? (Example from NYC: the two Creek observations for the '48 20th Century Limited were Plan 4126, lot number not recalled off top of my head but in the 6600+ range.).Also, do any of you folks Have any information about Budd job/lot numbers of ACL or SAL Budd streamliners? (Prewar Budd cars typically had a 5-digit job number for ID; the ATSF diner in California State Railroad Museum is from, Job 96915, and the Roosevelt observations for the NYC '41 Empire State Express were Job 96205. Postwar cars used an "xxxx-yyy" job/lot-number format, with "xxxx" here representing a code for the basic car type, and "yyy" being what I'd guess to be some kind of order code (for evidence, all of NYC's Budd cars delivered in '47-'49 had job suffixes of either 004 or 023, while the four slumbercoaches NYC leased from Budd in '59 were designated with suffix 090). For example, NYC's Budd baggage-dorm cars were identified as job/lot 9614-004 (for 2) and 9614-023 (for the others). I know either ACL or SAL had some Budd baggage-dorms with the 9614 prefix, but the photos I've seen of those cars look nothing like their NYC siblings.)
Any info that you could provide would be appreciated and of much value in a research project I'm working on. I apologize for my excessive use of references to other railroads, but those were the only specific examples I had in the immediate knowledge base to be able to explain myself.
