A defeat for the mackems on Saturday

...and it'll be mathematically impossible for them to finish above us. And it's only halfway through March. Just thought you might like to know that.

Do you also run along hilltops during thunder storms with a pointy copper hat on shouting, "God is a bastard!"?

I'm the original pessimist softie, perhaps only Gav is more of a doom merchant than me, but I'm quietly confident we'll be top dogs in the North East this term.

Currently slouching around in the slough of despond myself. Dreading us winning on Saturday since that will automatically mean that they do sod all for the rest of the season in preparation for another "glorious" cup run. Gnnnnn.

I'd be happy with 8 League defeats on the bounce and the FA Cup on the mantelpiece. I'd even forego top dog status for that elusive silver pot.

Of course the Geordie's aren't interested in any of this northeast "top dog" business and see Sunderland as a "minor irritation", their true rivals being Manchester United.

LOL!

Thats not true ML3.

They are infact bigger than Barca.

So to even mention us in the same breath as Newcastle is stupidity personified.

there was a bit of a discussion on Radio 5 about how bottom heavy (!) the Premiership was, with a 10 point gap between Leeds at 6th and mighty Charlton at 7th, and that there was only an 11 point gap between 7th and a relegation place.

If we'd had our expected season then the top 5 would be the same as last year and the year before. I' don't know whether we're up to maintaining it next year, nor whether Leeds can.

On their performances this season I'd be expecting Sunderland to be as challenging as ever next year.

Barca hate Madrid, but I guess they also enjoy their rivalry with Espanol.

Many years ago when allowed to post on RTG I pulled someone up there for being really condascending about Darlington/Hartlepool. Apparently they ARE small 'Durham' sides though so it was okay.

Macb, you ability to pay more than lip service to hyperbole is quite outstanding.

When did any Newcastle fan ever say they weren't interested in finishing as the region's No.1? Not me that's for sure. I think it's lovely being soooooooo far ahead of our neighbours.

I have a £20 bet with a no-hoper over who will finish ahead this season, so you could say I am interested in who is NE top dog (at least NUFC/SAFC).

I am on a pound -a-point bet........

Big losses ahead.
