Lolo speaks and where is Dougal?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

Lolo was interviewed yesterday, and with no sign of Dougal's translation I thought I'd better let you know what he said.

You were held to a 2-2 draw on Saturday by Ipswich at Saint James Park. After the penalty missed by Shearer at the end of the match, do you have any regrets? Obviously, as we fluffed match point. But, beforehand we had plenty of chances from set pieces and crosses, and should have already killed off the match. In terms of the league, we're now falling behind the three leading teams. It's imperative that we win our next league match to get back on track. Before then, we have the replay of the FA Cup quarter final against Arsenal this weekend.

Were the two goals conceded avoidable? We certainly had a problem in the centre of defence for both goals. But, on the other hand, we missed lots of chances up front. In this match, it's not necessary to single out the defensive errors. Everyone was responsible for the result.

You weren't conceding goals like that beforehand. Is the team starting to have some doubts? No, I don't think so. It's just a lapse in concentration. If we'd won the match, no-one would have criticised the two goals conceded.

The two goals scored were positive points for you (Newcastle, not Lolo). It's true that it's been a while since we've scored more than one goal in a match. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough for us to take the three points.

You scored the first goal with a well-placed free-kick, and set-up the second for Shearer. After your goal against Arsenal last weekend, you are in great form at the moment. I have been playing well recently, and I'm working hard. I want to finish the season well. It's important to score and set up goals for my club.

Why didn't you take the penalty? It's always Shearer who takes them. I would have liked to have taken it, but it isn't a problem at all. His miss doesn't change anything, but it would have been good for us if he'd scored.

Chelsea are coming back strongly behind you. They are only three points behind. How are you going to handle the run-in. In the position we're in, we shouldn't look behind us. We should concentrate firstly on our game, and our qualities. The teams in front of us have still some big matches left to play, and nothing is finished yet. The ball is in our court.

How are you going to prepare for the match in London? The same as normal. Every morning we'll have training, and then on Friday we'll go to London. Personally, I'm going to watch the Match between Arsenal and Juventus on Wednesday.

See you later.

Maybe the digs at his attitude have got through - noticeably more esprit de corps (sp) from Lozza now, collective responsibility for dropped points, no crowing about his goal and assist, no suggestion (cf post-Fulham) that he should be taking the penalties.

you can't fault him there, i think he's adapting very well, especially for a Frenchman!

He's quality, just went through a low patch before :-)

Good interview - very much a team player according to his responses.

on the issue of pens - does anyone know what Robert's record is in terms of goals/pens taken? Shearers is 24/28 I think from the other thread. But over the past 2 years I think Shearer's ratio is not as good as this as most misses have come more recently?

.COCk reckons he's missed 7 (out of 28-29). That's 25%. Not very good at all. 1. 11.11.98 Blackburn (h) Lge Cup: high 2. 12.10.99 B'ham City (a) Lge Cup: saved 3. 17.4.99 Everton (h) PL: saved 4. 16.1.00 Soton (h) PL: hit bar 5. 18.11.00 mackems (h) PL: saved 6. 17.11.01 Fulham (a) PL: saved 7. 16.3.02 Ipswich (h) PL: wide

I think Dougal has been given time off and may have gone to Metroland to digest this week's C&SA.

It's a better rate than Phillips.

Thes little interviews give us, the fans, some real insight into Robert's mood, his thinking, his concerns, and indeed his personality.

They are unusual in that they form the only REAL communication we get from SJP - just about everything else is bland comment or spin.

Before anyone crucifes me, I'm not saying we are worse than any other Club in this regard, but this is something I think the Club's should think carefully about. After all what LR is doing is hardly brain-surgery.

Why does he want to know where dougal is?

I was wondering where and how she was getting this information sooooo quickly!
