I was in London at the time and it was heartening to see one of the big papers run her bio quite large, the lead obit on the obits page--even above a Victoria Cross recipient and a movie star. I bet nothing like that occured in the States...

How is Inge pronounced? With a hard "g" or soft? IN-ga? Inje?

-- Bob Fleischman (RFXMAIL@prodigy.net), March 18, 2002.

Pretty sure it's IN-ga.

Check out the Magnum Photos site for some of her pictures.

Oh, and one look at her portrait by Cartier-Bresson should stop the debunk HC-B crowd dead in its tracks. Raw talent overcomes all objections about technique and character instantly.

Dave in the world of bigger, faster, newer, louder, fakier, and flakier. As those who have actually accomplish something fade from the spotlight they are often like yesterdays newspaper.Relegated to the bottom of the bird cage. The best we can hope for is that a few will remember.God forbid that a few of the few should pass on the knowledge.

Hello Alfred,

thanks for this hint and the website.

I had the opportunity to be at the opening of an exhibition of her photos in 1992. She led the crowd around and told about her photos for 1 1/2 h. After this she appeared quite exhausted, but semmed to have enjoyed it. Great person and she impressed me a lot by the way she introduced her work.

What I akso found impressive: whenever she was sent to a new oversees- assignment she spent weeks in advance to learn (at least a substantial bit of) the native language. This counted even for different chineese idoms ...

Who the hell does this nowadays when going to a foreign place??

Best wihes
