Gary Caldwell

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

Amazingly, Gary Caldwell has been named in Bertie Vogt's 1st full Scotland squad. I suppose it's possible 5Live made a mistake and it should be Steve Caldwell, but given his current low profile I have a feeling it really is Gary Caldwell. He must be doing great things for Hibs.

Given our recent shambolic defending you have to wonder why young Gary is fannying about in Scotland when there is a big job to do at SJP. One thing seems certain - either Bertie Vogt's is full of s**te, or we are missing a trick.

I think Gary gave away a penalty in the last minutes to lose the match against Hearts yesterday, which I suppose is the kind of thing to raise your profile.

No, it's definitely Gary Caldwell. There are 7 uncapped players picked for a game against France.

France, so Lemerre has asked for shooting practice!

Not having seen the reserves, (I REFUSE to call them the stiffs), but relying on the excellent reports from Steph and the occassional mumblings from Mini Fats as well as various other comments on here the opinion was that Caldwell Jr was the better defender and had more potential than his elder sibling.

To my surprise the first things said on here is "its the wrong Caldwell".

Someone (Berti) agrees with the majority on here and we start questioning why!

It is not only the club that needs to change its culture, but the fans as well!

My Hibs supporting colleague reckons Gary is in talks with us about his contract, but is gaining popularity and support to stay in Edinburgh. Thing is, their record signing was this year, Ecuadorian winger / wing back Ulises de la Cruz, for about £700k (nicknamed 'Useless'. Given the famed lack of funds outside of Glasgow, would you sell on a relatively bright prospect for under £1m?

Gus - you are clearly taking a swipe at me. So, let me just say - my reference was intended to imply only that Steve is more experienced and better known his brother - having already been capped at full international level. Therefore, it seemed a bit of a surprise that young Gary had been called into the full squad.

My comments were not intended to imply anything negative about Gary's ability - indeed, if you actually checked back to the "Reserve" reports that you refer to you will find it was usually moi that was bulling up young Gary as a top prospect, AND probably a better prospect than his older bro. I rate Gary Caldwell highly - and clearly higher than the hierachy at SJP.

As you can hopefully see, your 'dig' was entirely unjustified, and indeed uncalled for.

clarky, it was not aimed at anyone. It was just my take on the situation regarding the constant complaints and moans at the club and how they do things. Most of it is justified, however, to react in the same way is as bad. It is like the trend in advertising to use men as sex objects after years of women complaining of being treated this way.

If someone is doing something wrong by all means tell them about it, but do not do the same things yourself. (Not personally)

Hey man Clarkey, Gus has got nee hoose man that's why he's cranky, poor lad is sleepin oot of a box man. Gus yer right and yer wrong IMO, right about the cannit do anything right, but I thought you were a little harsh on this occasion, if Gary isn't good enough let him move on...Lots of people say he is mind.

Again, let me state. It was meant as a general comment, clarky was the unfortunate one who started the thread.

Being a long way off we do not get all the news or the chance to see the ressies etc.

Nearly everyone wants the club to change in some way my point although not obviously well put was go for the changes, but not by the same method the club screws up by!
