The Edgar Allan Poe Society of Baltimore has a very scholarly website with a critical bibliography, a comprehensive list of texts, variants, links to professional articles and a wide host of topics. One of the best lierary sites for any author, escpecially helpful that Poe's works are fairly brief. www.eapoe.org. Links to other sites of course.

Unique contribution to the field of literature, especially American and french literature and the whole field of art for art's sake. Himself a prodigy and genius even the controversy he inspires among critics is worth college level study. Discounted as a popular jingoist and flawed purveyor of gothic tales, among more personal attacks dating from his infamous literary enemies, parody and image cannot detract from an ingenious uniqueness even among the wilder ranks of his contemporary romanticists. Since the debate and the myths still continue unresolved it is an excellent field and one which, through his own essays, Poe has himself contributed as a pioneer of American literary criticism.
