what is your favorite way to die easter eggs? By the way, how do you die brown eggs?

You can dye brown or blue-green eggs the same way as white. We color eggs like my MIL does - drawing designs on them with beeswax then dipping them in different colors. Our naturally-tinted eggs turned out beautifully!

I find that my own chickens eggs don't take the dye well unless they are really scrubbed. I think it is due to that natural antibiotic coating I have heard about: the one that keeps the eggs from spoiling until the hen is ready to sit on them.

Terri-we found that to be true-"home" eggs don't dye as well as store bought. We always just dyed the brown ones like the white ones.

My son Tony (9) says his favorite way to dye easter eggs is to wrap them with rubber bands(or drip hot wax on them),then dye...remove rubber bands(or wax). This gives us a tie dye look...alot of fun.

We're looking forward to dying Americauna eggs this year, too.Lots of fun effects.

Since we arent homesteaders yet, we do it the cityfolk way. ONLY.. this year I found a sotr-bought kit that makes golden eggs. I cant wait to try it. We always have a few prize eggs so this year they will be the gold ones, hopefully we can find them all before our dog does, like last year... We spent an hour ( me and hubby ) looking for missing eggs, by chance hubby found the hound in the garage munching on 8 - 10 "fancy doggie treats"....LOL... We had noticed her following the kids around, but until we looked at the video tape , She had been stealing them out of their baskets and taking them to the garage, and coming back for another. 1 from Allyssa's basket then back to take one from Grace's basket... LOL

Hi /we use all natural things to color our eggs & have for several years-----strong coffee-(you can use instant--or even old grounds)---- makes brown eggs-- powered mustard---for yellow------or-----just play with the herbs you have on hand----

the kids don't have to worry about dyes--& chemicals----

Also onion skins boiled make a nice color----

play---with the natural things you have---some of the flavorings make a great flavored eggs also---as well as natural coloring---

Use your imagination----

Oh yes ---of coarse---blueberry juice---or cranberry concentrate--- make beautiful colors!!
