A long Goodbye

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Freedom! self reliance : One Thread

I posted a thread on Countryside forum titled " Silver Threads and Golden People " and I would like you to please give some consideration to adding your comments on it. I realize that I'm asking a lot. Some of you have nearly sworn blood oaths on never returning there. I'm only asking out of selfishness but your consideration is appreciated. Just think of it as an epilogue or an obituary. LOL

On another matter--I have read copy that there is an attempt to reunite the forums. I would suggest you read the preamble to posting in the CS forum. Freedom of Speech does not begin with --can't, don't, won't or do it elsewhere. IMHO, you might be trading what you already have for promises in the dark. However, with all due respect for Chuck, who is trying, keep the dialogue open for consideration. I am a little torn on the matter of giving them a place to pawn off what they don't like. I have said it many times and again--" Homesteading is Political ! A concious choice to live away from the norm. A decision to be different--intenially different ! If you leave your religion and politcs at the door ? Who are you ?

I think all the can't,don't , not allowed, or we will delete, etc, is leftover from Ken's days. Hopefully Chuck will slim it down a little. As it is, if you read the whole huge paragraph, it's actually kind of scary, enough to discourage a person from posting at all!

has anyone else noticed, that en doesnt post anymore, nowhere that I see anyways.

hmm. Haven't even been there, but I'll have a look at your thread. I guess I fall into the blood oath category. And what is this "talk about bringing all the forums together."???? I haven't heard a thing and I think I manage this board. Care to enlighten me?

I have nothing against Chuck, I just can't keep up with what is going on everywhere else all the time.

Stan, I saw Ken post on an older thread that he had started about cattle. The thread had gotten a new post on it so he probably got an e-mail alert about it and replied. That's the only one I've seen, though.

Doreen, I don't know about re-combining the forums, I think the idea was more to move the other forums as a group if they wanted to. Chuck wrote that he would e mail the moderators of the other forums and ask them what they thought of it. I don't think he has yet. The idea is that Lusenet might crash, and this way we could still visit all the seperate forums, Country Families, this one, and so on.

Lusenet most likely is going to go to a paid format, i.e you must pay to maintain your forum. This will be ocurring as soon as this summer. So if you want to stay on Lusenet you will have to pay the fee.

Well it seems that most forums with truly decent formats are paid. When I searched for a back up it appeared to me that infopop and vbulletin were the nicest and there is a charge. I absolutely hate threads, like where you have to open each persons response.I would rather not even have the internet than deal with that all the time....sorry, it just frustrates me tremendously! Thanks for the info. Guess we will see what transpires.

Doreen, I'm with you on *the simplicity* of this one! Do you REALLY need all the bells and whistles some other forums have?

THe forums combine....then it's just a ticking clock untill there's another blowup! back to square one..........
