Who belongs to the LHS in the UK?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

Just wondered what you thought anout it and whether it was worth the subscription. Any information of any sort would be greatly appreciated on this and other Leica clubs in the UK. Thanks,

I think the information and 'instant' anytime discussion available on the web has really taken over from these 'cliquey' clubs.

I was told by a long-time Leica user that the LHS (and LHSA) are rather cliquey. The sort of place where you have to have Leica embroidered socks to get in! He strongly advised against joining, saying "you aren't sad enough".

I recently joined the LHA and find their chatty publication interesting. I used to go to the UK frequently but no longer do so the events are not of interest., If you're interested, borrow a copy of the "Newsletter" and see for yourself. LHSA , I feel, is a better alternative because of their "Viewfinder" journal. I've enjoyed the three national LHSA annual meetings I've attended. I find the people very stimulating and friendly...not at all cliquish or stuffy. Their annual meeting this year is in Portland, OR in October. ...

I recently joined and I also like their publication. Roy Moss contributed an excellent article in the last issue. Always nice to get a Leica magazine. Lots of emphasis on the old stuff you don't run into much. Anyboby can post anything on the internet but I think you probably need to be fairly well informed to get published.

Judge for yourself at their website:- www.leicahistorical.co.uk The site has not been upgraded for over two years and no one seems interested in doing so.I was a member for 3 years but found it to be very clickish and with a committee thats not in touch with its members. On the other hand the LHSA(American)is far superior with its VIEWFINDER journal and communication with members, although there is a rather hefty subscription of non USA subscribers which has recently risen from $60 to $75 per annum - perhaps they too are not realy interested in new overseas members.
