Telyt "year of production"?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

Do any of the forum readers have the ability to ID the year of production of a Telyt 560/f6.8 #2976730? Also whether it would be two or three cam?

Should be 1979 according to http://www.leicagallery.com/lensdates.htm

A lens made in 1979 should be 3-cam but with the f/6.8 Telyts it's not guaranteed since the lens head can be used on much older mount tubes.

You should ask the seller to send you a .jpg of the rear of the mount tube to be certain. The shoulder stock included with this lens is older than the one that came with my 400 f/6.8, purchased new in 1979. It looks like the Telyt set you're interested in was assembled much like mine was, first the 400, then the 560 head at a later date.

Douglas, does it matter if the 560 Telyt has 3 cams? I thought that because it was a non-automatic diaphragm, the earliest versions of this lens can still be used on the later R cameras. I would greatly appreciate your comment as to whether an early 1970s lens will work without damage on an R8. Thanks.
