Quote of the day

"Have you slapped a pacifist today? If not, get to it. It’s one thing to protest a war undertaken in some remote jungle you have to take a long flight to, and whose purposes may be a bit gauzy. It’s quite another when the enemy is dive-bombing New York and Washington. "

-David Shifflet, Women's Quarterly

Sharbat Gula, the famous National Geographic girl, left - and 17 years later. Her husband said she had not been happy for a single day.

How Low Can They Go: Please, Fox, we are begging you, don't try another Celebrity Boxing Special. Not since the recent Hell's Angels convention has a less attractive group of humans assembled in one place. We know we recommended it and for that we humbly apologize. It was simply God-awful, humiliating to those involved and tasteless beyond description. Some bad taste TV is so bad it's good but this was pure garbage. As this headline says: No mas.

It Seems So Simple: The horrible Andrea Yates case is cause for consternation around the country as The Washington Times reports. We look at it this way: Only the criminally insane kill their children. If you kill your children you are criminally insane. Partners who go to work and leave a raving lunatic to take care of their kids bear responsibility. There are two guilty people here . One should go away forever because she is criminally insane. The other should pray daily for his soul.

Let There Be Light: Every now and then man does something that is so perfect, so simply elegant and right that it speaks for itself. Washington's Vietnam Memorial is one example. So is Manhattan's shimmering, and sadly temporary, 'Tribute in Light'. The WSJ Online's Claudia Rosett has a lovely essay this morning in that regard.

Beat Us But Don't Bore Us: Rosie O'Donnell is the Un-Condit when it comes to public relations and we fear a trend. Taking the old political advice of "hang a flag on your problem," to an excruciating extreme, she had bleated for weeks about her gayness. Like we didn't know? So go, Rosie and please don't come back to hock us about "the children." We've got Hillary for that.

This Should Not Stand: Sadly, it will - but the American people surely can't be so numb to the Clinton pardon scandal that they will just shrug it off. Here is Jerry Seper at the Washington Times with a second day take on this unspeakable situation . The Congressional Committee report is due out today. It won't add much to the information we have but it should add to the outrage.
